HOUSTON, March 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ENGIE Resources, the third-largest non-residential electricity provider in the United States, announced today that it has entered into a new agreement with Standard Meat Company that leverages on-site generation capabilities to help the company better manage both electricity price and quantity risks. As part of its contract, Standard Meat Company will also offset 10 percent of its total electricity consumption with Green-e® Certified RECS provided by ENGIE Resources.
The customized energy management solution, which includes services from DaCott Energy Services and Enchanted Rock, Ltd., reflects ENGIE Resources' ability to work with key business allies across the entire procurement chain to build tailored strategies that deliver value to users that goes beyond commodity supply.
Sayun Sukduang, President and CEO of ENGIE Resources, said the arrangement underscores the supplier's commitment to delivering customers reliable power, when they need it, without threat of interruptions – at a competitive, reliable cost.
"This agreement reinforces the 'revolution' we've been talking about in the current energy sector," he explained. "By offering tools and resources that link price with quantity, we are changing the way customers think about buying electricity, empowering them to not only take action and curtail usage, but also ease stress on the entire energy infrastructure. It's a better value proposition for our end users and the industry as a whole, and we're proud to bring Standard Meat Company this innovative solution."
Jim McCoy, Chief Financial Officer of Standard Meat Company, said he was pleased with the coordinated efforts of all parties involved in the agreement. "With the backing of an industry leader like ENGIE Resources – which understands what it takes to truly earn our business – as well as DaCott Energy Services and Enchanted Rock, Ltd., we are able to buy competitively priced power while maintaining the critical on-site generation capabilities we need to maintain our inventory in the event of a sudden disruption in supply. They have given us the flexibility we need to pursue the energy strategy that makes the most sense for our company, allowing us to focus on our core business strategy of offering our customers a continuous, uninterrupted supply of the best crafted meat products."
Elia Streltsov, Vice President of DaCott Energy Services, Standard Meat Company's energy consultant, added, "ENGIE Resources has built a reputation for delivering a level of service and customization that just can't be beat. Their ability to deliver on this displaced energy agreement demonstrates why they are at the forefront of the shifting energy management paradigm – one that moves away from managing price risk alone to address how much customers spend on power as well as how, and when, they use it."
Rob Cauthen, Chief Operating Officer for Enchanted Rock, Ltd., which specializes in providing distributed generation services, said, "We are excited to work with a supplier like ENGIE Resources to provide high-quality energy services to Standard Meat Company. By teaming together with DaCott Energy Services, we are able to seamlessly deliver the right integrated solution that allows our customer to meet operational goals and achieve sustainability objectives. We're looking forward to doing the same for other commercial and industrial users who may have a similar need for on-site generation capabilities."
Each Green-e® certified REC donated by ENGIE Resources as part of the agreement represents the environmental attributes or benefits associated with a specific quantity of energy generated from a renewable source, such as solar or wind. In addition to helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the gift encourages the development of domestic sources of renewable energy.
The RECs provided by ENGIE Resources will have a measurable impact on greenhouse gas emissions. According to a calculator from the Environmental Protection Agency, the RECs are equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 132,501 tree seedlings grown for 10 years, removing about 5,113 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, or to the displacement of the estimated annual greenhouse gas emissions of 1,080 passenger vehicles driven for one year.
