Emdeon Taps Healthcare Veteran Franklin Baumann to Serve as Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Baumann will provide clinical leadership to Emdeon's Interactive Care Management and Payment Integrity efforts
LAS VEGAS and NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AHIP INSTITUTE 2010 -- Emdeon Inc. (NYSE: EM), a leading provider of healthcare revenue and payment cycle management solutions, today announced the appointment of Franklin Baumann, M.D., as chief medical officer. In this newly created role, Dr. Baumann will provide clinical oversight and strategic planning for Emdeon's Interactive Care Management suite of solutions including the Emdeon CareComm(SM) and Emdeon Utilization Alerts products. Dr. Baumann will also provide leadership in support of Emdeon's Payment Integrity and other clinical information initiatives.
Dr. Baumann is a distinguished and proven leader and has held senior clinical leadership positions at organizations such as Dreyer Medical Clinic and Rush-Copley Medical Center. He most recently served as Medical Director at UnitedHealthcare, where he was responsible for promoting evidence-based medicine through direct interactions with practicing physicians and nurses and providing clinical support to network providers, facilities and the sales force. He is a board-certified general surgeon and has been published in numerous trade publications.

Dr. Baumann holds a bachelor of science degree in physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology, a master of science degree in medical physics from Rush Graduate College and a doctorate of medicine degree from Rush Medical College. In addition, he performed a general surgery residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.
During America's Health Insurance Plan's (AHIP) Institute 2010, Dr. Baumann will be participating as a panelist at the breakfast symposium, Creating Collaborative Healthcare Communities: Using Technology to Coordinate Care and Improve Outcomes. The symposium is scheduled for Thursday, June 10th at 7:30 a.m. Emdeon will be also be exhibiting at AHIP's Institute 2010 and demonstrating its Interactive Care Management and Payment Integrity solutions at booth number 317.
