EMC Documentum Records Manager Achieves Latest U.S. Department of Defense 5015.2 Certification

HOPKINTON, Mass., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- EMC® Corporation (NYSE: EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced that EMC Documentum® Records Manager 6.5 has achieved Department of Defense (DoD) 5015.2-STD version 3 certification for both standard and classified records.  In addition, EMC has extended the certification beyond electronic records management through the pairing of Records Manager with EMC SourceOne™ Email Management and EMC Centera® content addressed storage system to provide customers with a certified e-mail records management solution.

DoD 5015.2 is the de facto software standard which provides implementation and procedural guidance on the management of records in the Department of Defense.  It sets forth mandatory baseline functional requirements for records management application (RMA) software used by the DoD components in implementing their records management programs; defines required system interfaces and search criteria that RMAs shall support; and describes the minimum records management requirements that must be met based on current National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) regulations.

According to the 2009 IDC study titled, "As the Economy Contracts, the Digital Universe Expands," the amount of information considered "compliance-intensive," or subject to rules that govern what information must be stored and accessible to regulating authorities and auditors, will grow from 23 percent in 2008 to 35 percent in 2012.  To manage this growing volume of information, companies need to build an information governance strategy.  Information governance encompasses the people, practices and technology to proactively manage and take control of what and where information is stored, who has access to the information and how it is protected as well as how long the information is retained.

Records Manager is certified as compliant with several other standards in the U.S. and Australia as well as supports international records management guidelines such as ISO 15489.  EMC plans to apply for MoReq2 certification this year to address European customer requirements.
