PORTLAND, Ore., May 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Elemental Technologies, the leading supplier of software-defined video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, today announced that the Orange TV Group is using Elemental video processing to expand and enhance its Genflix over-the-top (OTT) content delivery service. Elemental solutions are enabling the Orange TV Group within PT Mega Media to expand its Genflix service availability on a variety of smart devices and to broaden content offers for subscribers across Indonesia.
Genflix, which launched in September 2013 as Indonesia's first OTT service, will employ Elemental® Live and Elemental® Server to provide subscribers a smooth and uninterrupted viewing experience while watching Genflix's six linear channels and premium video-on-demand offerings. The Genflix service can be accessed by customers using mobile apps for Google Android and Apple iOS-based phones. Content can now be repurposed more efficiently for both linear and video-on-demand (VOD) streams for all viewing platforms with guaranteed content security. Elemental video processing software will provide a vital component within the PT Mega Media video infrastructure as the media enterprise works to grow its subscription base to 500,000 customers and aims to become one of the leading pay TV operators in Indonesia.
"OTT does not have a single standardized delivery technology, digital rights management, or standardized consumption devices compared with direct-to-home broadcast services. Genflix needs flexibility to serve this complex market," said Bobby Sidharta, Chief Technology Officer of Orange TV. "Elemental has the right technology to meet these needs while taking our future growth plans into account. It has also proven easy to integrate and easy to operate."
In the Genflix workflow, Elemental Live encoders stream content which Irdeto manages for delivery with its multiscreen services. The live workflow is managed by Elemental Conductor®, which also provides system and redundancy management. This latter capability is especially important given the geographic challenges of offering pay TV services to an archipelago nation where many live in villages far from urban centers. Irdeto Multiscreen controls Elemental Server and all VOD processing.
PT Mega Media Indonesia launched Orange TV in February 2012 as the first and only pay TV operator in Indonesia to offer a pre-payment system. Its customers are not tied down by monthly charges or a contract and have the flexibility to pay for premium content in many ways, including prepaid vouchers available at convenience stores, ATMs and post offices.
"Given the way Orange TV broke into the Indonesian broadcast market, we know they pride themselves on doing things differently. We share this innovative spirit and support their efforts to bring anytime, anywhere services to areas not reachable by free-to-air markets," said Dan Marshall, SVP of worldwide sales for Elemental. "We believe the potential for pay TV in Indonesia is huge and Orange TV is well positioned to take advantage of that."
