Elekta donates USD 35,000 to prostate cancer research
Employees grow moustaches and raise money for Movember campaign
ATLANTA, Dec. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 150 Elekta employees from offices in a dozen countries participated in this year's Movember drive to raise awareness and funding in support of men's health – prostate and testicular cancer in particular. During the month called Movember (moustache [mo] + November), Elekta employees helped raise approximately USD 35,000.
Movember is an international, independent, annual fundraising event that encourages men (called "Mo Bros") to grow moustaches and women (called "Mo Sistas") to support them. Since 2003, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas globally have raised well over USD 500 million.
Niklas Savander, President and CEO says: "Elekta's commitment to improving the lives of people with cancer goes far beyond just selling hardware or software. I'm extremely proud of our colleagues who participated and especially those who donated to this cause. Their actions demonstrate that our dedication really is part of the Elekta culture."
Max Vere-Hodge, Movember Country Manager for Scandinavia, says: "Organizations such as Elekta have a huge impact in their support for Movember, both in terms of the funds they raise and also the awareness that they spread regarding men's health issues. Because it is a company that works directly with managing cancer, Elekta's employees are natural spokespeople for men's health. We are incredibly grateful and proud to have them as supporters in our fight to beat prostate and testicular cancer."
This is the second year Elekta has officially participated in the fundraising campaign, which saw donations increase by 60 percent over last year.
Elekta's donation will go to the Movember Foundation's Global Action Plan (GAP), an international research collaboration initiative that provides researchers from around the world the opportunity to work together on specific projects. Funds raised are committed to combating prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems and have supported over 800 men's health programs to date.
