E.Kanoo Racing Team Sets World Record and Wins BDRC Round 3 in Bahrain
MANAMA, Bahrain, Dec. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bahrain's Ebrahim Kanoo of Manama and his E.Kanoo Drag Racing team set the all-time quickest and fastest Toyota Supra-bodied drag car record during the Bahrain Drag Racing Club Round 3 event at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain. The event took place December 21 thru 23 with open practice sessions beginning on the 21st.
E.Kanoo racing team driver Gary White of the United States launched into the record books as the driver of the world's quickest and fastest Supra-bodied car when he crossed the finish line in 6.461 seconds at a speed over 347 kilometers per hour (215 Miles Per Hour). This run marks the all-time quickest and fastest quarter mile pass by a Supra, eclipsing team owner Ebrahim Kanoo's own 7.33 second and 314 km/h from the previous Round 2 in Bahrain.
The early success of the new Kanoo machine is partially due to the engineering team in the way of power production and management. Chassis and Clutch Engineer Eric Luzinsky of the United States is responsible for similar duties on Titan Motorsports' drag race car in the United States and works hand-in-hand with Engine Calibrator Shane Tecklenburg of the United States, who programs the MoTeC Engine Management Systems of both E.Kanoo Racing Vehicles. Between Luzinsky's expertise (currently holds World's 6 cylinder turbo ET record in the 1/8 mile at 3.93 seconds and Speed record at 190) and Tecklenburg's expertise (currently holds World's all-time quickest turbo vehicle of any kind to 1/8 mile 3.821 seconds), they were able to predict to within .008 seconds what the car was capable of in the present configuration, writing down 6.469 seconds during the pre-event engineering briefing with E.Kanoo Racing Car Chief Haider Koohzad of Muharraq, Bahrain.
During qualifying, the team put White on pole with a 6.71 second ET and Kanoo in second position with a 7.61 second ET. Failure of a solenoid, which is designed to apply the brakes before the launch, destroyed any hopes of victory for the newly crowned World's Quickest Supra for White with a red light start.
Kanoo was given a bye run when his opponent was unable to compete and streaked to victory, but a broken cylinder block slowed the car to just 7.66 seconds at 303 km/h. With the minutes counting down before the final elimination round, the team rallied and changed the engine in a remarkable 1 hour and 20 minutes.
In the Final Round, Kanoo launched first and never looked back, letting off the throttle at the finish for an easy 7.67 seconds at 285 km/h victory to his opponent's 8.05 seconds.
Said Kanoo of the victory: "I am so pleased with my team this weekend. We set a new World Record with the new car, and even if we had that problem with the brakes, it is clear that the car will be back to run even quicker in the future. We were able to get a victory again with my old car and I was the most impressed with my team to change the engine that quickly. Eric, Shane, Gary and Brett White all pitched in to help. We were Americans and Bahrainis all working side by side for a common goal and we accomplished it. They were like a symphony; it was amazing to watch them and I am very proud right now."
