EHM Brings Nationally-Renowned Exercise Physiologist to Metro Detroit to Share Aquatics Therapy Benefits for Older Adults
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., May 6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Evangelical Homes of Michigan (EHM) today announced that it has secured nationally-renowned exercise physiologist, Professor David Brennan, to come to metro Detroit to speak at several events in conjunction with Senior Living Week, May 15-17, 2015. One of the country's few certified aquatics therapists, Professor Brennan will share best practices with physicians, physical therapists, and older adults as an effective tool to help maintain health and fitness, as well as to improve rehabilitation goals in the older adult population.
"We have invested $750,000 to build an aquatic therapy program at The Redies Center for Rehabilitation and Healthy Living to help our clients stay healthy and to help them rehabilitate when recovering from injuries," said Denise Rabidoux, president and CEO of EHM. "Clients who participate in our aquatics programs have marked improvements in their overall health, including faster recovery times and reducing the level of discomfort throughout the healing process. Our orthopedic lengths of stay continue to drop allowing the patient to return home faster."
Ms. Rabidoux added, "We are thrilled to have someone of Professor Brennan's caliber come to our communities to share best practices with not only the physicians and therapists who serve older adults, but also with the clients themselves who will benefit from the information and techniques that can help improve their quality of life as they age in place."

Professor Brennan is currently an instructor and physiologist at the University of Oklahoma's College of Medicine in Tulsa. He began his work in aquatics rehabilitation in 1993 and has spent a majority of his career focused on refining a clinical aquatic exercise program at the Human Performance Laboratory in Tulsa. He is noted both nationally and internationally for his work in training and rehabilitating athletes in an aquatic environment and training medical professionals across the country. His expertise is invaluable to older adults who wish to remain fit and active, as well as to help them recover from injuries.
"Fitness is a lifelong process," said Professor Brennan. "The benefits of aquatics therapy are not only for athletes, but for all human beings, especially older adults, when it's critically important to maintain general health and well-being."
