AUSTIN, Texas, May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- e-MDs, a physician-lead nationwide provider of electronic health records (EHRs), announced that their client, Dr. Jen Brull, of Plainville, KS, has become the first physician in Kansas and one of the first in the nation to be federally certified for Meaningful Use of electronic health records and has received a full incentive payment. Recognition of achieving Meaningful Use of EHRs by the federal Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) of Health Information Technology qualifies Brull for the first year Medicare Meaningful Use incentive payment of $18,000 and up to $44,000 in Medicare-based incentives over five years. Dr. Brull uses e-MDs Solution Series™ in her private family medicine practice to improve the quality of patient care.

Dr. Brull worked closely with the Kansas Foundation for Medical Care, Inc. (KFMC), Kansas' Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center and e-MDs, while demonstrating her ability to achieve Meaningful Use of an EHR using e-MDs Solution Series Chart. The partnership formed by these entities coupled with Dr. Brull's leadership and passion for improved health care, led to a successful demonstration of Meaningful Use and improved care for patients served by her practice. Dr. Brull's leadership in the implementation of EHRs is further exemplified by her participation in the Meaningful Use Vanguard program ("MUVer"), a program designed by the ONC to recognize an exclusive group of champions of EHR adoption and Meaningful Use. She is a local leader, advisor and role model in the movement towards an electronically-enabled healthcare system, and will encourage other clinicians to work toward Meaningful Use.
"The journey to Meaningful Use has meant many things to my practice, the most important of which is improving the quality of care for my patients. Working with my staff, the HIT REC and my vendor has been rewarding and critical to my success," said Dr. Brull. "Without the support of e-MDs and KFMC, it would have been a much more arduous task! I would encourage all of my fellow physicians to work towards Meaningful Use and enjoy the same benefits."
Dr. Jen Brull is a family medicine physician in her ninth year of rural private practice. She currently serves as the president for the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians. Beyond her interest in EHRs, Brull specializes in maternal/child care, chronic disease management and preventive medicine. Dr. Brull has partnered with Associated Purchasing Services (APSKC) to reduce her operating expenses and enhance revenues. Dr. Brull will be recognized at the APS HIT Educational Summit and Vendor Fair on May 25, 2011 and is slated as the key note speaker for the program at the DoubleTree Hotel at Corporate Woods in Overland Park, Kansas.
"Dr. Brull is one of the most dedicated healthcare providers I have ever worked with, and she quickly identified the value of using a comprehensive EHR in her practice," stated Michael Stearns, MD, President and CEO of e-MDs. "From this she has emerged as a leading national user of EHRs and has been able to demonstrate its marked benefits for patient care. She is one of the first of several hundred providers using e-MDs that we anticipate will achieve Meaningful Use incentive payments in the next few weeks. This has been a rewarding experience for several members of our staff who worked closely with Dr. Brull. It also demonstrates the value of the Kansas Regional Extension Center (KFMC) in helping providers achieve Meaningful Use of our EHR."
