Duomo di Milano + EXPO Milano 2015 at Eataly New York
Iconic Cathedral Makes its American Debut at Eataly New York: EXPO Tickets Now on Sale!
NEW YORK, Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- One of Italy's most beloved cultural treasures – the 600-plus year old Il Duomo di Milano – made its New York debut today.
A curated collection of pinnacles, gargoyles, and statues – temporarily extracted from the Duomo (English translation: church) for this once-in-a-lifetime showing – was unveiled today at Eataly New York. The exhibit, "Eataly per Duomo," includes a number of historically significant pieces. Among them: the statue of Santa Lucia, an image of the Holy Virgin, and an assortment of architecturally unique gargoyles. The exhibit is being held in honor and celebration of Expo Milano 2015, hosted by the Duomo's birth city – Milan, Italy.
Eataly is a proud supporter of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano in its effort to launch and establish the fundraising organization, International Patrons of Duomo di Milano and its campaign, Do You Duomo? (www.foritaly.org), aimed at restoration of the Duomo. The goal: return the cathedral to its original glory by May 1, the same day Expo 2015 opens its doors in Milan. More than 20 million visitors are expected during its six-month run.
Eataly New York also announced that it is now an official ticket vendor for Expo. Tickets went on sale today.
"We are thrilled to be launching the International Patrons of Duomo di Milano and this major fundraising project," said Professor Angelo Caloia, president of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo. Adding: "This project can help to build a bridge between the heart of Milan and the center of New York City."
"Eataly has been able to bring the best of the Italian food tradition to America and we are delighted that it has decided to celebrate the city of Milan with this amazing exhibition. We are also very pleased that Eataly, which will have its own space at Expo, is our Official Ticket Reseller," said Piero Galli, General Manager, Event Management Division of Expo 2015. "We are honored to be within one of the main attractions of New York and we strongly believe that this space will have a key role in promoting Expo Milano 2015 both among Americans and the Italian community that resides in the Big Apple."
