ABILENE, Texas, Aug, 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Roberta Kalafut of Spine Abilene has always taken great pride in helping those in need and bettering her community. For her compassion and dedication to the city, the Abilene Philharmonic Association has recently presented her with Volunteer of the Year Award.
For years Dr. Kalafut has made a positive impression on those in the community. She has served on numerous committees for the Abilene Philharmonic Association and has raised thousands of dollars through her charitable work.
"I am always looking for ways to give back to the community," she said. "I am constantly working with the Philharmonic Association and I am very honored by the award they have presented me."
When she is not helping in the community, Dr. Kalafut is one of two board-certified physicians working at Spine Abilene, a regional spine center that emphasizes a non-surgical approach to back and neck pain. During her time at Spine Abilene, Dr. Kalafut has been recognized as one of the top physicians in the nation for her compassion and dedication to her patients. Dr. Kalafut said she prides herself on giving her full attention to each patient.
"Every patient I see is equally important to me. I have been fortunate enough to be given the Patient's Choice Award for the past 3 years," she said. "I love my job and the patients I get to interact with on an everyday basis."
John Whitaker, general manager for the Abilene Philharmonic Association, said that Dr. Kalafut always goes above and beyond with her services and fundraising efforts.
"She really cares about this organization and takes great pride in her fundraising efforts," he said. "We have been giving this award for almost 10 years and for 2013 we could not think of a better person to present the Volunteer of the Year Award to. She is a great role model for the Abilene."

About the Abilene Philharmonic Association
The Abilene Philharmonic is one of Abilene's oldest performing arts organizations, enriching the cultural life of the "Big Country" in West Central Texas. The Philharmonic's history traces back to its incorporation in September 1950, when community supporters organized a musical group called the Abilene Symphony Orchestra. The concerts were held in the old Abilene High School, now Lincoln Middle School. The Abilene Philharmonic has an affiliated 150-member volunteer nonprofit, the Abilene Philharmonic Guild, as well as a separate nonprofit endowment board, the Abilene Philharmonic Foundation.
They provide opportunities for the public to enjoy excellence in symphonic performances by offering musical diversity and innovative educational programs in order to enrich the quality of life in our community.
