Dr. Owens is well known for his innovation and success in the field of weight loss surgery. Over the past 20 years, he has been one of the leading forces in developing many of the important advancements in techniques used today.
Dr. Owens said that, "As surgeons, we constantly strive to improve surgical procedures, advance techniques to improve results, and minimize risks and complications for our patients. My new technique reduces the chance for leaks and lessens heartburn sometimes associated with post-operative Sleeve patients."
As the first surgeon in Southern California to perform the Gastric Sleeve surgery as an alternative to Gastric Bypass and Gastric Banding, Dr. Owens is the most experienced surgeon in Gastric Sleeve surgery in both the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. Dr. Owens has performed over eight-thousand weight loss surgeries including laparoscopic gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and adjustable band surgeries.
Dr. Owens has helped numerous patients with his sleeve gastrectomy surgeries. Recently, one of his patients said of the procedure that, "Having this surgery was the best decision I have ever made. I'm happier, healthier, and I can breathe much better. I do a lot more activities with my kids. Overall, I have a lot more confidence."
When asked what drives him to continually improve on his own weight loss surgery techniques and procedures, Dr. Owens replied that, "I feel the responsibility to continue improving our current procedures to help more people by providing the best surgical options possible. As a result, new techniques such as my Inverted Corner Gastric Sleeve Technique reduce the side effects of bariatric surgery. We have come very far over the years, but there is always room for improvements."
Dr. Owens cites the importance of the doctor/patient relationship, especially in bariatric medicine. He works closely with his patients to get the results that they need. He takes the time to understand each individual and the challenges they face. With his new technique, Dr. Owens hopes that his surgical patients will have the best experience possible when going through weight loss surgery.
