Saint Francis Hospital Surgeon and Author Honored for Worldwide Contribution to Medicine
EVANSTON, Ill., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Saint Francis Hospital is pleased to announce that world-renown laparoscopic surgeon Constantine Frantzides, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S., and staff member at Saint Francis Hospital, has been selected as one of America's Top Doctors®. He will be included in the ninth annual Castle Connolly acclaimed guide to the top medical specialists in the nation. This selection acknowledges the national and international reputation of Dr. Frantzides, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship Program at Saint Francis Hospital.
The award is another in a long succession of recognition for Dr. Frantzides. He has been acknowledged for his contributions to the development of laparoscopic procedures and bariatric surgery. A frequent speaker at U.S. and international meetings, he has been recognized by physician groups in the United States, France, Switzerland, Spain, UK, Brazil, Korea, Greece and Cyprus.
"I am flattered by this award, but my real rewards are in helping my patients and teaching other surgeons," commented Dr. Frantzides. "I am as devoted and energized by my work today as I was on my first day of medical school or the day I decided to become a laparoscopic surgeon."
Dr. Frantzides is the Director of the Chicago Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery and a Professor of surgery at University of Illinois in Chicago. As a recognized worldwide expert in the field of laparoscopic surgery, he is a charter member of the United States Laparoscopic Founders' Society. He has more than 200 publications in medical journals and is the recipient of multiple awards and honors by medical societies. He is also the recipient of a prestigious grant from the National Institute of Health.
Dr. Frantzides has authored a groundbreaking new textbook that teaches other surgeons how to perform minimally invasive surgery. The "Atlas of Minimally Invasive Surgery" includes a DVD of 30 live surgeries and more than 395 photos to teach surgeons proven techniques and procedures. No other book has ever included a DVD with surgeries that were filmed live. The book is co-authored by Dr. Mark A. Carlson, also an expert in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) procedures.
