Down 164 Pounds and Nearly Half His Former Size: Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET(R) Success Story Profiled on ABC's Good Morning America
Marty Moorehead of Gilbert, Arizona, goes from 363 to 199 pounds in twelve months on Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® and shares his story on ABC's Good Morning America on Friday, January 8, 2010
NEW YORK, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Marty Moorehead of Gilbert, Arizona, who last January weighed 363 pounds and had a 56 inch waist, today strode confidently onto the set of ABC's Good Morning America looking and feeling like a new man, down 164 pounds and appearing dapper in a button-down shirt and size 38 pants. Moorehead was invited to participate in GMA's roundup discussion of America's hottest weight-loss approaches, including the regimen that worked for him: Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET®, developed by South Florida obesity expert and author Dr. Sanford Siegal.
"Back when I joined Dr. Siegal's CookieDiet.com in January of 2009, I was having to request a special seat belt extension whenever I flew. I had trouble finding pants with a 56 inch waist. I was very self-conscious about my appearance," said Moorehead. "But this morning, I found myself on national TV in front of millions of people, trimmer and healthier than I was for many years. In my case, happy new year is a major understatement!"
Moorehead's appearance on GMA continues a perpetual string of major media profiles of Dr. Sanford Siegal and his venerable weight-loss diet. In the past few months, Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® has been featured in reports by NBC's Today Show; CNN's Joy Behar Show; ABC's Good Morning America and The View; The Wall Street Journal; and The New York Times. On October 21, 2009, Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® was the number one search topic on AOL; two days earlier, it was sixth on Google's list. "Marty Moorehead's story should inspire anyone who has a lot of weight to lose," said Dr. Siegal. "I'm glad that my cookie was able to keep his hunger in check but the credit for his success goes to Marty and his unwavering determination not to let his weight rob him and his wife, Grace, of their future."
Dr. Sanford Siegal developed the concept of a diet based on a hunger-controlling food in the early 1970s while writing a book about substances in food that are particularly satisfying of hunger. Based on his research, he engineered a formula to curb hunger and enable his patients to stick to the low-calorie diet that he advocates. After several years of experimenting in his family's kitchen, Dr. Siegal produced a particular mixture of amino acids that resulted from the combination of certain food substances. He baked his formula into a cookie and gave it to a few patients. Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® was an overnight success. Shortly thereafter, he created his shake mixes which, when added to water and ice in a blender, produce a cool, hunger-controlling beverage. By the mid-1980s, his Miami-based medical practice had grown to include 14 clinics and he was supplying his cookies and shakes to hundreds of other physicians throughout North America.
In 2007, Dr. Siegal and his son, Matthew Siegal, the company's CEO, began offering their cookies, shake mixes, and other products to the general public through www.CookieDiet.com (which has more than 116,000 members) and retailers, including GNC, Walgreens, and Samsclub.com.
Although knockoff products have recently appeared, Dr. Siegal's cookie-based diet is recognized as the original, and he continues to command a nearly 100 percent share of voice in the press.
In June 2009, Dr. Siegal published his latest book, Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet Book: How a Doctor and His Cookie Helped 500,000 People Lose Weight Fast (2009, Hyde Park Publishing Ltd., 320 pages, ISBN 978-0-9822728-3-19999), which is available at Amazon.com, BN.com, Barnes & Noble stores, and Walgreens.com.
