Don Kurz Appointed CEO of Omelet
Omelet's Former Executive Chairman Re-capitalizes Agency and Takes Helm as CEO
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Omelet (omeletla.com), a seven-year-old creative agency based in Los Angeles, today announced that its Executive Chairman, Don Kurz, will also assume the role of CEO under a newly financed structure designed to support the growing needs of brands, studios and partners. Kurz, who was previously the Chairman and CEO of EMAK Worldwide (EMAK), one of the leading companies in the marketing services space, will work in partnership with co-founders Steven Amato and Ryan Fey to accelerate growth. Mr. Kurz brings with him over 30 years of experience in strategy, marketing, finance and public company leadership, and a track record of building companies into multi-million dollar enterprises. He aims to help Omelet re-invent the agency model and further differentiate itself from traditional advertising and marketing services agencies.
"I've been in this game for a long time and I can honestly say that I've never seen better chemistry, insight, talent and work ethic than in the people at Omelet," said Don Kurz, CEO of Omelet. "The founders have built an incredible foundation from which to grow and, moving forward, their contributions have given us the ability to position the agency in a completely unique and ownable new way that adds measurable value to clients beyond traditional marketing services."
Omelet will be announcing a new business model and leadership structure focused on capitalizing on the fact that consumers want to be entertained – even when it comes from a brand – and that anything that stands in the way of that is considered disruptive and unwelcome. In its "Marketing Formats," Omelet will be focused on creating entertainment experiences surrounded by 360° marketing campaigns that are funded by brands in whole or in part – something that has been in Omelet's DNA since its inception.
During his tenure as CEO of EMAK, sales rose to over $230 million and, as noted by leading proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis, EMAK's stock price rose by approximately 26%, compared to a decline of approximately 87% by its peer group composite. In addition to his experience at EMAK, Mr. Kurz was formerly a senior partner and head of the New York office for a predecessor firm to global consultant Towers Watson, a partner in the investment bank Diamond Capital Advisors, and co-founder and CEO of hedge fund Artemis Capital Partners. He was recently elected to a second six-year term of the Board of Trustees of The Johns Hopkins University, where he received his BA, and he has been an adjunct professor of marketing and a frequent guest lecturer at Columbia University, where he received his MBA.
