DocuTrac Integrates DrFirst Technology in their Electronic Medical Records Software
HAGERSTOWN, Md., May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- DocuTrac, Inc. a leading developer of software for the behavioral health industry announced today that they have partnered with DrFirst to revamp the electronic prescribing functionality incorporated in their QuicDoc® EMR Professional and Enterprise Edition Software. The DrFirst integration provides a secure, powerful, and easy to use e-prescribing system.
The new integration allows providers to electronically prescribe controlled substances, as well as transmit and fax prescription orders and renewals to local pharmacies. Users also have the ability to maintain a complete medication and allergy history check for drug interactions with those medications and allergies, and complete refill authorizations in seconds.
DrFirst's e-prescribing technology allows QuicDoc users to be one step ahead of electronic prescribing mandates. In 2010, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) approved the sending of controlled substance prescriptions electronically. Since then DrFirst has been working closely with the DEA and with Surescripts, the nation's largest e-prescribing network, to assure that physicians can securely sign and send controlled substance prescriptions consistent with DEA requirements.
In a recent press release, James F. Chen, chairman and CEO of DrFirst said, "We've now hit the fast-track stage where adoption is occurring rapidly and e-prescribing of controlled substances is becoming widely used." The press release also stated that over 13,000 pharmacies including major drugstore chains such as CVS, Walgreens, and Rite-Aid now accept electronic prescribing for controlled substances.
James Miller, Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance for DocuTrac noted that, "Our partnership with DrFirst brings many advantages to our customers allowing them to accomplish e-prescribing for controlled substances within their existing workflows." He goes on to say that, "It is just a matter of time before it's mandated that all prescriptions be sent electronically, and we are ready for that eventuality. The DrFirst integration is consistent with our goals of providing features that are cutting edge, efficient, and easy to use."
