DOCS Education's 8th Annual Sedation Safety Week to Salute Dental Patients
SEATTLE, March 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The more than 20 million Americans who have overcome their fear and anxiety related to seeing a dentist will be the focus of the 8th Annual Sedation Safety Week (SSW), hosted by DOCS Education.

The series of SSW programs, which coincide with the annual switch to daylight savings time, will mark the official launch of "The Year of the Sedation Dentistry Patient" – a celebration of the advances that have occurred in helping millions of patients to overcome their hesitancy and receive safe, pain-free, dental treatments.
It is estimated that more than 92 million Americans are fearful of visiting the dentist. Historically, many of those people postponed appointments until their pain and discomfort became overwhelming, compromising their quality of life and putting their overall health at risk.

SSW will take place against the backdrop of proposed changes to the American Dental Association's guidelines that cover the use of oral sedatives by general dentists.
As such, the 8th Annual SSW will also emphasize the need to rely strictly on credible science and evidence-based research studies to determine the best ways to provide for the health, comfort, and safety of all sedation patients.

This year's schedule:
Monday: 10 Commandments of Safe Sedation Dentistry: Showcasing steps that dentists must follow to ensure the safest possible experience for patients.
Tuesday: Get the Sedation Science: Launching a new website providing evidence-based research and related content confirming the need for, and safety of, sedation dentistry.
Wednesday: Sedation Safety Dentist of the Year Honors: Recognizing a peer-nominated dentist who demonstrates a non-stop commitment to excellence, patient safety, and patient comfort.
Thursday: Save Sedation Dentistry Campaign Day: A day for grassroots activism by dentists and their patients aimed at keeping sedation dentistry widely accessible and affordable.
Friday: The Year of the Sedation Dentistry Patient: The announcement of an ongoing series of events and programs to celebrate and showcase patients whose lives have been transformed thanks to safe, effective, sedation dentistry. Sedation patients are invited to share their success stories and contribute to the upcoming book, The Miracle of Sedation Dentistry.
