Dion von Moltke and South African Airways team for the Daytona Rolex 24-Hour Sports Car Race
CORAL GABLES, Fla., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Young South African superstar and three time Grand-Am series winner in 2009, Dion von Moltke (www.dionvm.com) will once again team with South African Airways (www.flysaa.com) for this annual classic, to be held January 30th and 31st at the legendary Daytona International Speedway.
SAA and Dion teamed in 2009 at the same event, where Dion drove in Grand-Am's Rolex Series GT class in a Mazda RX-8. The partnership continued with several races in a Porsche GT and Daytona Prototypes at Daytona and Homestead. In most of these races he was teamed with 4 times South African national champion Hennie Groenewald -- the pair performing well for the many South African fans watching the Grand-Am series and sports car racing in North America.
For the upcoming race Dion will drive the new number 7 Starworks BMW Riley, which is similar to the car he drove in the season ending event at Homestead. Hennie is unable to make this event due to prior commitments in South Africa, but Dion is very pleased with his team mates for this grueling event -- Bill Lester, and Mike Forest.
"The car will be fast, team owner Peter Baron has assembled a great crew, and we have a strong line-up of drivers -- so we should be running near the front at the end. Having SAA there again with their guests is always special for me -- I have become a huge fan of this awesome airline, and everyone knows of my love for the country -- so having them there adds a level of intensity to the race that I especially enjoy," said a grinning Dion at the Roar before the 24 test days at Daytona. "I am looking forward to completing arrangements to have me drive the car for the whole 2010 season".
"We are extremely excited by our participation with South African race car driver Dion von Moltke and his team as they participate in this world famous racing event," said Marc Cavaliere, Executive Vice President, North America, for South African Airways. He added, "SAA is always looking for ways to be associated with South Africans around the globe and provide support to help them be the best in the world -- just as SAA is constantly recognized as the best airline to Africa. Plus, it allows us to promote SAA to a growing and extremely dedicated fan base in North America, and to encourage them to visit South Africa. We are also in the planning stages of developing race car come-along packages, where racing fans can travel to South Africa, and join Dion for trackside experiences as part of a great and affordable vacation package to South Africa."
