NEW YORK, Sept. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- DigitasLBi, a global marketing and technology company, today announces the appointment of Alvaro Cabrera as Chief Strategy Officer for North America. In his new role, Alvaro will report to Tony Weisman, CEO of DigitasLBi North America.
Prior to this, Alvaro served as the Managing Director and Head of Engagement Planning at OgilvyOne New York. Cabrera was also the Global Lead for OgilvyOne's proprietary planning methodology and tool, which he played a crucial role in developing and deploying across their entire network worldwide.
"Alvaro has the ability to find the key insights only human analysis uncovers from data," says Weisman. "He is an award-winning strategist and creative thinker who takes that information and uses it to build the innovative strategies marketers need to engage consumers today. Alvaro is respected among his peers, and his leadership inspires colleagues to do the same. We couldn't be more excited to have him join us."
As Chief Strategy Officer, Alvaro will work closely with Ronald Ng, Chief Creative Officer, N.A, and Jason Kodish, Global Chief Data Scientist. He will also partner with Baba Shetty (Global Chief Media officer) to deliver a consistent approach to strategy across teams and disciplines.
"It truly is a wonder to see how data and technology are transforming the marketing landscape," says Cabrera. "Combining data, technology and storytelling to create the most compelling brand messages and experiences is something I find joy in -- and having the chance to do so alongside Ronald and Jason only makes joining DigitasLBi that much more exciting."
Ronald Ng adds: "I wanted to partner with Alvaro from the first time we met. He is thoughtful and solutions-driven, and above everything, gets pumped up about the power of big ideas. This is another exciting chapter for DigitasLBi, following the momentum of our recent Cannes Grand Prix win."
Alvaro Cabrera: Combining Data and Strategy To Inspire Compelling Behavior Changing Ideas
Alvaro has 18 years of industry experience, and has worn many hats during that time, having been an account manager, strategist and creative copywriter at several top customer engagement agencies. He has created and launched integrated campaigns in Europe, Latin America and the U.S.
At OgilvyOne New York, Alvaro led a group of 40 engagement planners and strategists with clients such as IBM, Aetna, BlackRock, Coca-Cola, UPS, E*Trade, American Express as Managing Director and Head of Engagement Planning, and was Global Lead for OgilvyOne's propriety planning methodology and tool, which he helped develop and deploy across all offices worldwide.
Before joining OgilvyOne, Alvaro held the role of Chief Idea Officer at both The Bakery in New York and NXT, a division of GlobalHue. He made the move to the states in 2008, becoming SVP, Executive Director of Interception at Dieste Inc, based in Dallas, TX.
The time Alvaro considers most important in his growth as a professional was back in his native Spain. Prior to his move stateside, he established himself as an integral asset for agencies he was a part of, having last held the role of SVP, Alternative Advertising Director at Contrapunto/BBDO. While at Contrapunto, his strategic leadership and direction helped inspire work that went on to win Lions, Effies, and ECHO awards for work spread across various categories – from finance and youth marketing to public service. Before Contrapunto, Alvaro was SVP, Client Services Director at CP Proximity (BBDO). Time spent at CP Proximity helped him reach a turning point in his career – not only was he leading accounts and strategy, he soon dived deep into ideation and creative development, with that work also being heavily awarded. His overall time within the BBDO network offered him the chance to work with top blue-chip brands like Chrysler, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz and Vodafone.
Alvaro holds a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Lees-McRae College, North Carolina, and an EMBA from ESADE Business School, Madrid.
