DeMayo Law Offices Awards $37,500 in Scholarships to High School Seniors
CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Fifteen high school seniors who created winning videos and presentations on how to prevent underage drinking and driving have each been awarded $2,500 scholarships toward their college education through the eighth annual Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship Program.
This year, the firm expanded its annual scholarship program to include fifteen seniors in 23 counties served by the firm. North Carolina counties included: Mecklenburg, Gaston, Catawba, Union, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Lincoln, Rowan, Caldwell, Stanly, Iredell, Alexander, Burke, Robeson, Scotland, Richmond, Anson and Cumberland. South Carolina counties included: York, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Marlboro and Dillon.
The firm's scholarship committee selected students based on their grades, school and community involvement, SAT scores and a presentation (video/PowerPoint/brochure/website/speech) that encouraged fellow teens to abstain from underage drinking and driving and/or highlighted the dangers of drinking and driving. The 15 winning scholarship presentations can be viewed on the firm's website at www.DeMayoLaw.com. Click on the "2010 Michael A. DeMayo Scholarships Winners" button on the left.
"We were very impressed with the scholarship presentations we received from so many creative young people. These students really understand the potentially devastating consequences of drinking and driving," said Attorney Michael A. DeMayo, who has awarded $162,000 in scholarships since founding the program in 2003.
DeMayo presented the scholarship winners with their checks at a dinner he hosted for the students and their parents on May 26 at Mama Ricotta's. The 2010 scholarship recipients are:
