Delaware North: Providing Hotel Management in Special Places(SM)
BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Delaware North Companies expanded its hotel management services in 1993 when it won the bid to operate lodging and other guest services in Yosemite National Park. Since then, the 95-year-old company has become a successful, well-respected hotel management company with a portfolio of nearly 20 owned and/or managed properties it refers to as Special Places(SM).
Kevin Kelly, who guides Delaware North's hotel management arm, credits his company's approach and the quality of its staff, systems and processes.
"We're succeeding because of our strategy to focus on providing Stewardship and Hospitality in Special Places(SM), and our ability to do it well," he said.
"I think we're a successful hotel management company because we operate in places that people look to for extraordinary experiences – historic locations and places of incredible natural beauty. We have created and implemented integrated management systems that are crucial to our success, and we are leveraging Delaware North's strength and stability," Kelly added.
Delaware North is nearing its second decade of offering hotel management services to the U.S. National Park Service in Sequoia and Yosemite, which is home to the fabled Ahwahnee. Delaware North also works with New York state and Ohio's Ashtabula County on the management of Gideon Putnam Resort and The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake, respectively.
Its venture into private ownership occurred a decade ago with the purchase of Tenaya Lodge, a four-diamond resort a stone's throw from Yosemite. Bringing its hotel management services home to roost was a sound idea. So much so, Delaware North went on to purchase or build 10 more hotels, all of which are in the category of Special Places(SM). There is something unique about all of them... some element that makes each a must-see destination.
Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa in British Columbia traces its roots to the Gold Rush of the mid-1800s. Prospectors meandered north in search of their fortunes, only to find the hot mineral springs around which the modern-day resort is built. The Holiday Inn West Yellowstone, one of three West Yellowstone hotels owned by Delaware North, sits near an entrance to America's oldest national park. Five Australian resorts, several of which are near the Great Barrier Reef, are among the company's newest acquisitions.
