DataMotion Launches Community Web Portal for Rapid Deployment and Extension of Direct Secure Messaging Capabilities
Overcomes Major Industry Hurdles by Allowing Eligible Hospitals to Gain MU 2 Attestation Even if Affiliates Not Equipped with Direct Secure Messaging; Includes "Universal" Viewer to Easily Read Continuity of Care Documents
FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Aug. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DataMotion, an experienced health information service provider (HISP) with the industry's leading record of customer deployments and Meaningful Use Stage 2 (MU2) attestations, today announced the DataMotion™ Direct Community Web Portal. Through the service, Eligible Hospitals (EH) and Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) can rapidly begin attestation for the transition of care objectives of MU2 by enabling the secure transfer of protected health information (PHI) from one care setting to another, even if an affiliate provider is not equipped with Direct Secure Messaging (Direct) or certified EHR system. The Portal will include a Continuity of Care Document (CCDs) Viewer that overcomes a further industry obstacle by allowing the receiving healthcare provider(s) to easily view these files without the expense of additional EHR software.
"Our care centers need this solution," said Mark Crandall, CIO of Consulate Health Care - one of the nation's leading providers of senior healthcare services, specializing in post-acute care. "Our care centers need to have Direct Secure Messaging in order to receive transition of care documents from our provider-partners across the continuum of care. DataMotion Direct with the Community Web Portal feature enables these care centers to easily obtain a Direct address and then receive transition of care documents, allowing us to provide a viable path forward for our partner's objective of MU Stage 2 attestation. This is an important step in moving actionable data from provider to provider securely to achieve improved patient care."
Introduced in 2012, DataMotion Direct is a standards-based service offering easy-to-use data transfer capabilities for "real-world" healthcare communications including secure messaging for sending and receiving PHI, summary of care documents and large images for both in and out-of-network communications. The Community Web Portal is a new feature of the cloud-based DataMotion Direct platform, designed to overcome hurdles that have impeded the industry's adoption of Direct Secure Messaging.
Hospitals attempting to gain MU2 certification, and qualify for financial incentives from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, have been encountering obstacles when going through the attestation period because the technology for receiving summary of care records is often not fully deployed by their affiliate providers. Those affiliates are often without the Direct messaging capability needed to securely receive a patient referral.
The Community Web Portal rapidly extends the capabilities of DataMotion Direct to those affiliates. It enables recipient Direct mailbox assignment and facilitates transmission of referrals between care settings in compliance with MU2 attestation requirements. Newly enabled Direct addresses can be provisioned within days, allowing EHs and CAHs to attest in the earliest 90-day reporting period available and begin receiving MU2 incentives as soon as possible. Health systems and hospitals can also co-brand the Portal for use with their affiliated providers for a familiar look and feel.
An enhancement to the Community Web Portal coming in September is a C-CDA Viewer. For healthcare providers, CCDs generated using electronic health and medical record (EHR/EMR) systems are often unreadable by those without an EHR. The CCD viewer allows doctors and other healthcare providers who receive the files from various sources to view these documents without downloading and installing additional software, further facilitating MU2 attestation. The Viewer will be universally compatible with C-CDAs generated by any EHR or EMR.
"Our new Community Portal overcomes a major barrier for attestation," said Bob Janacek, CTO of DataMotion. "Just because affiliate providers don't yet have the proper technology in place, doesn't mean that a hospital has to delay MU2 attestation and miss out on financial incentives. This portal easily extends Direct capabilities to those who don't yet have it and is another step forward in secure communications for improved patient outcomes."
