Cylance Wins Top Honors from Frost & Sullivan for its Cybersecurity Solutions That Employ Complex Machine Learning Algorithms for Pre-execution Malware Blocking
Cylance's solution does not require human intervention, Internet connectivity, or regular updates, making the company the preferred solution provider for customers across industries
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the endpoint security platforms market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Cylance® Inc. with the 2016 Global Growth Excellence through Application Convergence Award. Cylance's cybersecurity solutions have consistently outperformed competing solutions in dealing with unknown threats across endpoints. The company has set the stage for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in meeting the rising challenges posed by hackers and cyber-attacks.
Cylance's innovative approach to endpoint prevention does not rely on heuristics, signatures, or behavioral analysis. Instead, the company employs a machine learning (ML) platform that can be easily integrated with third-party services and tools. Unlike most competing systems that analyze threats and develop methods to deal with them, Cylance uses a highly sophisticated series of mathematical algorithms in its CylancePROTECT® product to block all malicious software before the threats can be executed.
"Cylance's AI engine analyzes the 'DNA of threats' by leveraging machine and algorithmic science from millions of endpoints and dozens of databases and a massive computing laboratory," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Deepali Sathe. "The entire process of understanding, analysis, and identification of normal and abnormal data is done through AI, thus eliminating the faults, errors, and omissions prevalent in non-machine-based security systems. Additionally, this solution does not require an Internet connection, scheduled scans, or signature updates."
Cylance can demonstrate dramatically higher efficiency in blocking malware compared to peer solutions. Furthermore, competitors' performance drops even more dramatically when dealing with mutated versions of threats, while Cylance continues to achieve the same rate of success as with non-mutated malware. A key product advantage is that Cylance's preemptive technology sits low in the kernel, and the runtime is interrupted or suspended for a mere 15 microseconds to allow Cylance's algorithm to analyze the macros of an event. If a threat is identified, alerts or quarantines are applied, and the object is pulled offline and will never execute, giving the customer time to either patch or remediate the system.
Once Cylance's solution is deployed, both historical and real-time data are fed into the algorithm, which self learns and analyzes potential threats and responses for endpoints to enable automatic mitigation. Because of its use of a math algorithm, the solution requires only one update roughly every six months, as opposed to most anti-virus (AV) systems that require daily signature updates.
In addition, Cylance offers a variety of professional services, including a compromise assessment, which is often performed for new customers that have traditionally relied on a legacy AV product. Some of the services can even be delivered remotely, eliminating the need to scan machines or download an entire disk image data for analysis.
Significantly, the solution uses less than 1% of users' CPU capacity and works across the organization's infrastructure. The solution's deployment is simple and seamless across Windows and Mac OS and can be easily integrated into an existing security ecosystem through open application programming interfaces (API) and transferrable log files. These features enhance the business value for customers as they gain efficient security without incurring excessive costs.
"Cylance cybersecurity solution is a single product for a number of security threats such as memory-based attacks, malicious documents, zero-day malware, privilege escalations, scripts, and potentially unwanted programs," noted Sathe. "This enables customers to reduce the number of security systems deployed."
Cylance's clientele covers more than 22 industries, including critical infrastructure, energy, healthcare, retail, finance, and education. This coverage is a testament to the bigger value that users perceive in the company's future-proof solutions than in the reactive solutions of its closest competitors.
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that demonstrates excellence in developing and offering innovative product, service, or technology solutions that aggressively embrace environmental stewardship. This award recognizes the company's inordinate efforts and focus on advancing the cause of long-term sustainability.
Frost & Sullivan's Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for outstanding achievement in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research.
About Cylance Inc.
Cylance is the only company to offer a preventive cybersecurity solution that stops advanced threats and malware—before they can execute—at the most vulnerable point: the endpoint. Applying a revolutionary artificial intelligence approach, CylancePROTECT® analyzes the DNA of code prior to its execution to find and prevent threats others can't, while using a fraction of the system resources associated with antivirus and detect and respond solutions deployed in enterprises today.
