WASHINGTON, Feb. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This week, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation's largest pro-Israel organization, ran a Washington-based ad campaign in support of President Donald Trump's nominee to be the US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman.
The full page ads ran in The Hill on Tuesday, in Roll Call on Wednesday, and in The Washington Post on Thursday.
In addition to the ads, CUFI also distributed an action alert asking its 3.3 million members to contact their senators requesting they support the Friedman nomination.
The ads and action alert come on the heels of the CUFI Action Fund hosting a mid-January fly-in to Washington during which more than 260 Christian leaders representing 49 states lobbied their Senators in support of the nomination.
"President Trump has the right to nominate someone he trusts to serve in this critical post. Now that I've met and spoken with David Friedman on a number of occasions, I can tell you that the President's trust in Friedman is well placed. His gravitas, experience and detailed knowledge of Israel will serve President Trump and our country extremely well," said CUFI founder and Chairman Pastor John Hagee.
"CUFI is committed to seeing David Friedman confirmed as our next ambassador to Israel. This isn't just because we're impressed with Friedman. This is also because we see his confirmation as an issue of fundamental fairness. President Trump won the election and is entitled to have the candidates of his choice serve as our representatives abroad. To suggest that senators should vote against otherwise qualified nominees because of reasonable policy differences is to take the confirmation process to a new partisan low," noted David Brog, CUFI's founding executive director and an active member of CUFI's Board of Directors.
"The President has put forth a strong nominee to be the US Ambassador to Israel, and the Senate needs to move swiftly to confirm him. This nomination cannot get bogged down in petty bickering or sour grapes over the results of the election. Trump is the President, Friedman is the nominee, and the Senate needs to let them do their jobs," added CUFI Action Fund Washington Director Gary Bauer.
With more than 3.3 million members, Christians United for Israel is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States and one of the leading Christian grassroots movements in the world. CUFI spans all fifty states and reaches millions with its message. Each year CUFI holds hundreds of pro-Israel events in cities around the country. And each July, thousands of pro-Israel Christians gather in Washington, D.C. to participate in the CUFI Washington Summit and make their voices heard in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
