Online state university expands technology focus with new Certificate of Completion and Degree Specialization in Computer Programming
GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., March 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Colorado State University-Global Campus (CSU-Global) will offer a computer programming certificate of completion and undergraduate degree specialization program, comparable to the popular boot camp-style programs, beginning March 2016. Similar to industry accelerators, these online classes are geared toward novices. By program end, students will be able to design a simple web and mobile app, and have mastered basic software development. Bridging the gap between non-accredited accelerators and traditional semester-long programs, these courses are designed on CSU-Global's 8-week course schedule, allowing students to gain an accelerator experience without the sacrifice.
"Software development is becoming an important segment of the Colorado economy," said CSU-Global Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Jon Bellum. "It is estimated that Colorado will need over 8,000 software developers by 2022, and the need for qualified employees who have the technical ability as well as the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that come with our new program are in high demand."
With the focus on advanced technology, the new computer programming offerings will leverage the fully-online environment provided by CSU-Global. Students can gain these marketable skills while working full-time, and are able to directly apply their coursework to the workplace. In addition, the program is aligned with the exam topics for Oracle's Java SE 7 Programmer certification paths at the associate and professional levels.
"As a public university, our mission is solely on the success of our students—both academically and professionally. As such, we worked with our faculty and industry experts to develop courses and outcomes that build the foundational knowledge programmers need, as well as provide the hands-on experience to demonstrate their value in a larger business environment," continued Dr. Bellum.
