FALLS CHURCH, Va., Oct. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CSRA Inc. (NYSE:CSRA) is the recipient of the Air Traffic Control Association's (ATCA) prestigious Earl F. Ward Memorial Medallion Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievements that have added to the quality, safety or efficiency of air traffic control.
CSRA received the award in recognition of its work in developing a secure, public-facing website to enable citizens to register their Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) or personal drones, beginning in the 2015 holiday season. In partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration, CSRA managed the full lifecycle development process and assembled an outstanding team of technology innovators to design, develop, test and deliver a modern, cloud-native registration website that could be accessed on various platforms including a mobile device or PC. More than 550,000 drone registrations have been completed since December 2015.
"Designing and deploying the sUAS registration website in a compressed time period was a remarkable achievement," said Paul Nedzbala, CSRA executive vice president, Health and Civil Group. "Receiving this esteemed Medallion Award is a great testament to the brilliant team of engineers, solution architects and leading technology partners who worked diligently to ensure the FAA has an efficient governance process for private drones."
The award was presented during the annual awards luncheon at the 61st ATCA Annual Conference & Exposition on Oct. 17 in National Harbor, Maryland. Established in 1956, ATCA is dedicated to progressing the science of air traffic control and the preservation of a safe flight environment.
"Earl F. Ward was a pioneer in the aviation industry and we are incredibly honored to receive this award in his name," said Nedzbala.
