Cox Provides Free Internet and Phone Services for New Kent, County VA Residents Through Mobile Site

CHESAPEAKE, Va., Sept. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications is providing free internet and phone services for residents of New Kent County and surrounding areas that have been hardest hit by Hurricane Irene.
Cox's remote trailer is located at 12001 Courthouse Circle in New Kent County. This is the command center for a number of New Kent's emergency operations.
The Cox site houses several laptops and cordless phones for customer usage. There is also an HD television on site for customer usage.
The site is available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Saturday through Tuesday, September 6. This service will assist those residents needing to make calls to family and friends and for those needing to use the internet for personal needs. Representatives are on site to assist with their usage of this equipment.
"Hurricane Irene was a powerful storm. New Kent County and other areas within the Cox service area who had extensive damage and power loss. We hope to help those in need by providing this site for residential use of our phone, internet and television services until the restoration is complete. Our teams continue to work around the clock to restore services to these areas," says Gary McCollum, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cox Virginia.
Finally, restoration is nearly complete for the Cox Hampton Roads area. More than 97% of Cox customers have service restored.
