Cox reaffirms its Cox's commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by enrolling in Legend's Demand Response Program
CHESAPEAKE, Va., March 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Legends Energy Group (Legends) and Cox Communications are proud to announce that Cox has made Legends its official demand response partner for all Cox Virginia locations. Not only will Cox receive a payment by reducing its electricity during times of stress on the electric grid, but Cox's reduced energy consumption will have a profound effect on the local environment.
"I am so pleased that we are partnering with Legends on this important environmental initiative. This signing ceremony and the great work that will begin shortly thereafter is proof positive of our continued engaged in the conservation arena," says Gary McCollum, Cox Virginia Senior Vice President and Cox General Manager.
Legends consists of some of the most talented sports legends of our time, including NFL Hall of Famers Bruce Smith and Thurman Thomas, along with many others. These sports legends act as player affiliates to the group to market and bring recognition to industry-leading energy programs available to businesses across the country. Many businesses are unfamiliar with these big energy saving opportunities. Legends partners with national demand response leader "Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc.", which administers the program.
Football Hall of Famer and Legend member Bruce Smith was instrumental in guiding Cox Communications to enroll in Legends' demand response program. Along with other energy experts, Mr. Smith met with the company and explained the wide array of benefits of demand response. Demand response participants through Legends are paid for agreeing to voluntarily reduce electric consumption for a short period of time during critical periods of demand. Participants are typically asked to decrease their electricity usage only when the electric grid is strained and in the need of help to avoid blackouts.
"We are extremely pleased to have Cox Communications as a Legends customer," remarked Ashley Reimers, Coordinating Director of Legends Energy Group. "Cox will now begin to see significant payments without exposing themselves to any risks whatsoever. Clearly, Cox is serious about reducing their national carbon footprint and increasing grid stability within their community."
Cox Communications, a leader in digital communications, has set a goal to reduce their companywide carbon footprint by at least 20% before 2017. By enrolling with Legends Energy and Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc., they are well on their way.
"Cox has as its goal to reduce its carbon footprint greatly by the year 2017. The engagement of our employees in meeting this goal is critical. And through our Cox Conserves program, we have raised the awareness of our employees and have developed activities that influence their actions. We are truly aligned in our objective of hitting this target. So we are truly proud to partner with the Legends Energy Group on this great program," says Kim Stanley, Cox Conserves VA Council Chair Cox's Vice President of Operations for Roanoke.
