Consumers More Willing to Pay for Mobile Apps Than Previously Thought
Mplayit Analysis Shows More Than Half of iPhone Users Willing to Buy Mobile Applications; BlackBerry Users Willing to Pay Big Prices
SAN FRANCISCO, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Mplayit, the new mobile app store on Facebook that is transforming the mobile app discovery experience, today released the company's latest mobile app analysis from its cross-platform app store on Facebook, showing that more than one-third of users across all top mobile platforms are interested in paid apps, going against conventional wisdom that users aren't willing to pay for anything(1).
On average, across all device platforms approximately 35 percent of users are interested in paid applications. More than half of the most popular apps on Mplayit's iPhone (Arcade or platform) are paid, 57 percent, compared to 33 percent on BlackBerry and 16 percent on Android. BlackBerry users are willing to pay the biggest premium for apps, with a median price point of $5.99, compared to $2.72 on Android and $1.99 on iPhone.
"Our analysis dispels the myth that consumers aren't willing to shell out money for great mobile applications," said Michael Powers, Mplayit CEO. "If you're making a quality app, don't be afraid to charge for it."
Games vs. Non-Games
Games continue to grow in popularity on iPhone, making up 68% of the most popular apps. While Android has seen a slight increase in popularity for gaming apps compared to the previous month, it's still is dwarfed in comparison to iPhone, as well as BlackBerry:
