Conservatives Richard Viguerie, Craig Shirley, and Jason Jones Oppose Obama-Reid-Boehner Agreement on Fiscal Year 2011 Appropriations
Manassas, Va., April 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Three prominent conservatives have issued a joint statement opposing the proposed appropriations for Fiscal Year 2011 that were agreed to by President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Speaker of the House John Boehner.
The statement by Richard A. Viguerie of ConservativeHQ.com; Craig Shirley of Citizens for the Republic; and movie producer Jason Jones said, "Republican congressional leaders should consider this: When your major opponent, President Obama, praises your agreement as a good deal, it is a bad deal. And grassroots conservatives know this."
The three conservatives harshly criticized the past and present GOP leadership in Congress.
"We remember that, when you had control of both houses of Congress and the White House, you actually increased budget deficits and our national debt. Worse yet, you increased spending for hundreds, if not thousands, of national, state, and local left-wing organizations," the statement said.
The conservatives suggested that new Republican congressional leaders might be necessary.
"If the GOP leadership doesn't have the courage, outrage, and vocabulary to fight for the hearts and minds of Americans, then maybe they should put the 'backbenchers' and new Tea Party members out front and on television to make the case Americans need to hear," the statement declared.
