Comcast Powers Xfinity WiFi Hotspots On Boston's MBTA Green Line On Platforms From North Station To Kenmore
The Nation's Largest and Fastest WiFi Network Now Available for Commuters and Tourists on America's First Subway Line
BOSTON, July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast announced today that it has activated Xfinity WiFi hotspots in the subway platform areas on the MBTA's Green Line from North Station to Kenmore just in time for the busy 4th of July holiday and summer season. Comcast is the first provider to offer WiFi in portions of the first subway line to open in the United States.
"America's oldest subway has now become one of the very first to offer customers high speed Internet access on century-old train platforms," said MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott. "With the introduction of WiFi service at Green Line stations, hundreds of thousands of T riders can stay connected preparing for their daily commutes."
Xfinity WiFi is available in the following MBTA Green Line station platforms: North Station, Haymarket, Park Street, Boylston, Arlington, Copley, Prudential, Symphony, Hynes Convention Center and Kenmore, as well as dozens of other outdoor station platforms on the B, C, D and E branches of the Green Line.
"Comcast customers demand high-speed access to stay in touch and enjoy entertainment on the go," said Steve Hackley, senior vice president of Comcast's Greater Boston Region. "We're proud to extend the nation's largest and fastest WiFi network to serve our customers in some of the MBTA's busiest stations."
Today's news follows the company's March 2014 announcement of the Xfinity WiFi network surpassing 300,000 hotspots across New England, and the company's plans to have more than 8 million WiFi hotspots around the country by the end of the year. In addition to being the largest WiFi network in the nation, Xfinity WiFi also is the fastest, providing wireless broadband access at key locations where customers spend time working, commuting, dining and socializing.
Most Xfinity Internet customers can access Xfinity WiFi hotspots at no additional charge by selecting "xfinitywifi" from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices, and entering their Comcast ID or email and password. After the initial sign in, customers will be automatically connected to the network whenever they are in a hotspot location. It is easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots by downloading the Xfinity WiFi App, available on iOS and Android devices, or visit the hotspot finder map on www.xfinity.com/wifi.
