Comcast Launches 4G Version of High-Speed 2go Wireless Data Service in Boston Area
High-Speed 2go™ Now Provides Consumers With 4G or 3G Access to the Internet
BOSTON, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast, one of the nation's leading providers of entertainment, information and communications products and services, today launched its 4G or fourth generation high-speed wireless data service in the Boston area as the company continues its nationwide rollout of High-Speed 2go™. Today's launch builds upon the success of Comcast's High-Speed 2go 3G offering, which was introduced in May 2010.
Comcast's High-Speed 2go is a mobile Internet solution that provides the fastest available wireless Internet speeds in the nation via wireless data cards. Comcast now offers a fourth-generation or 4G wireless service in addition to a nationwide 3G wireless service. Comcast is selling this wireless service bundled with one or more of its popular Internet, phone and television products, providing mobile broadband wherever and whenever customers need to be connected.
"We know that consumers in the Boston area embrace technology and Comcast is proud to bring them 4G service bundled with blazing fast Internet speeds up to 50 Mbps and beyond at home or on the go," said Steve Hackley, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Greater Boston Region. "Comcast continues to offer the most innovative products and services in the market whether it's with XFINITY TV, Voice, Internet or now wireless – all for the ultimate benefit of customers in the region."
Comcast is now selling three different data cards and service plans:
- High-Speed 2go Metro (4G) service uses a 4G-only data card giving customers the fastest wireless service within the 4G metro coverage area. The 4G device operates only in a 4G network footprint.
- High-Speed 2go Nationwide (3G) service uses a 3G-only data card giving customers nationwide wireless service. The 3G-only device operates on Sprint's national 3G network.
- High-Speed 2go Nationwide Preferred (4G/3G) service delivers the fastest metro 4G service plus coast-to-coast access on Sprint's national 3G network. The 4G/3G device operates by switching between available 4G and 3G networks.
The world-class services Comcast is known for in the home are beginning to be extended to where consumers work, live and play. High-speed mobile Internet is one of the first products consumers want as a natural extension of Comcast's super fast wired high-speed Internet.
Bundled Pricing
For the first time, consumers will have access to blazing fast wired and wireless Internet - sold together at launch as a "Fast Pack" for as low as $54.99 per month for one year. Both new and existing Comcast customers will be eligible for special bundled pricing, with existing Comcast High-Speed Internet customers receiving 4G wireless or 3G wireless as an add-on for as low as $40 per month. Visit www.comcast.com/highspeed2go for additional pricing plans and service packages.
The $54.99 per month Fast Pack Metro (4G) service includes Comcast's home Internet service with speeds up to 12 Mbps, a free WiFi router for mobility and extended coverage in the home, and 4G service that will provide 3 to 6 Mbps average download speeds when customers are on the go. The Fast Pack Nationwide (3G) service, for as low as $54.99 per month, includes Comcast's 12 Mbps home Internet service, a free WiFi router for mobility and extended coverage in the home, and nationwide 3G mobile network access. For an additional $15 per month, consumers can upgrade to the Fast Pack Nationwide Preferred (4G/3G) service that includes the Fast Pack Metro 4G service plus nationwide 3G mobile Internet access. All prices are in effect for the first 12 months.
Comcast is selling wireless data services following its investment in Clearwire in November 2008. Comcast's 4G service is being provided via the Clearwire network, and its 3G service is being provided by Sprint's nationwide 3G network. Comcast is one of the first investors in Clearwire to bring a service to market and expects that it will continue to add value to existing bundled products.
