Comcast Expands Silicon Valley Innovation Center to Foster Collaboration and Continued Product Innovation
Comcast convenes local start-ups and tech partners at Innovation Center Open House
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Comcast will convene an open house at the company's newly expanded Silicon Valley Innovation Center, where Comcast will preview upcoming product innovations and discuss Silicon Valley partnerships to advance broader industry innovation. Comcast's technology partners Twitter, Altia Systems and the California Telehealth Network will also be on-site to demo new product innovations in partnership with Comcast.
Since the Silicon Valley Innovation Center's launch in 2011, the center has grown from 60 employees to include approximately 250 talented engineers, product designers and experienced architects while maintaining a start-up culture. The Innovation Center also leverages local Silicon Valley partnerships, from start-ups to large companies, to drive innovation and commercialize new technology across a spectrum of broadband, entertainment, business services and home automation platforms, including the X1 platform, SEEiT and the XFINITY Home Security App.
"The expansion of our Silicon Valley Innovation Center underscores our commitment toward advancing technology innovation across our platforms and our entire industry," said Justin Miller, general manager, Comcast Silicon Valley. "We have created a really exciting, collaborative and entrepreneurial environment where incredibly talented engineers and designers from around the world are developing game changing products that have the potential to reach millions of people. This expansion will further our ability to innovate, attract top talent and forge creative partnerships, and I'm excited about the products and customer experiences that this will enable us to deliver going forward."
"Comcast - along with NBCUniversal - is a major employer in the California technology industry, with more than 12,000 employees. In California especially, we're in a unique position at the intersection of media and technology, bringing entertainment and broadband services to households and businesses across the State," said Hank Fore, regional senior vice president, Comcast California. "Today's event is testament to the investment Comcast has made in California, and to the great relationships our people have forged in the technology industry, working collaboratively to deliver the future of communications and entertainment."
The Comcast Silicon Valley Innovation Center is part of Comcast's broader technology arm, Comcast Labs, focused on developing, integrating and deploying products that change how people connect to entertainment, information and their communities. In addition to Silicon Valley, Comcast Labs has development centers in Seattle, Philadelphia, Denver and Washington D.C.
The Open House event will feature presentations from Altia Systems and the California Telehealth Network, as well as a presentation by Twitter on the implementation of the new "SEEiT" feature, which gives millions of XFINITY TV customers the ability to instantly access TV shows, movies and sports directly from a tweet. Additionally, the Innovation Center will present new features on the X1 platform, as well as provide a preview of the future for home automation, entertainment and Comcast's cloud platforms.
