College Students Get Personal on New Online Platform "FlockU"
Launching Today, FlockU Gives College Students an Unfiltered Space to Talk About Everything That Happens Outside the Classroom
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- College students everywhere are invited to "get flocked" with the launch of a new digital media startup called FlockU that was created as an unfiltered space for college students to talk about everything that happens outside the classroom.
On FlockU (FlockU.com), students have the reigns to read, write and create content around topics that are important to them. The site serves as a hub of real stories, opinions, candid videos, lessons, news and other information that's honest, unfiltered and relevant to student life.
FlockU's student contributors, called "Flockers," are paid per post and write about a range of topics including sex and dating, student loans, health, partying, drug and alcohol use, employment, gender biases, diversity on campus and more.
"Nobody understands the life of a college student better than a college student. That's why we want to give them a place to share all of the good, bad, sometimes serious and often hilarious things they're experiencing," said Josh Verne, Founder and CEO of FlockU. "FlockU is about letting the next generation voice their opinions with the same uncensored tone they use amongst themselves. The peer to peer exchange of stories, lessons, and moments is unlike anything they're learning in school, and in turn, we're gaining incredible insight into this hugely influential demographic and the things they actually care about."
Flocker content is published within the site's seven verticals: Classes, College Life, Entertainment, Health, The Real World, Sex & Relationships, and WTF Is Going On? The company has also enlisted several independent professionals to contribute to the site, offering simple and straightforward advice and information on personal finance, mental health, and other critical issues.
FlockU was founded in 2015 by Philadelphia-based entrepreneurs Josh Verne and Jon Dorfman, who together previously founded and sold workpays.me, a flexible employee benefits company. Verne serves as FlockU's CEO and is funding the company. Zanny Oltman is the President of FlockU and was formerly VP of marketing partnerships at Destination Maternity Corp. Jerry Baklycki is CTO, formerly of David's Bridal. Caroline Weller is Senior Managing Editor, formerly of The Huffington Post.
FlockU's board of advisors includes Kenny Dichter, CEO and Founder, Wheels Up; Eric Siegel, UPenn's Wharton School of Business; David Adelman, President and CEO of Campus Apartments; Scott Thompson, CEO, ShopRunner; Todd Sandler, Executive Advisor, Kynetic.
