The West has always played a large role in the American public imagination. From the promises of gold and silver, to the vast Pacific Ocean, to the unspoiled beauty of the Wild West, it has always had a lot to offer. And some of the best colleges in the United States can be found in the West as well.
"Here at College Choice, we're on a mission to help future college students find the best schools—best overall, but also best for each individual student's needs," Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said of the ranking. "That's why we put together these state-by-state rankings. They're designed to highlight the unique educational offerings available in each state of the Union, and they each offer something to help different kinds of students."
College Choice developed its lists by looking at traditional metrics of institutional excellence such as student-to-faculty ratio, incoming student test scores, and regional accreditation according to data from the National Center for Education Statistics and U.S. News & World Report. College Choice also incorporated data on return on investment, or the difference between tuition costs and expected early career salary, found on Payscale.
