Codero renews its commitment to renewable energy
Web host purchases 10,260 MWh of Green-e certified green power for all its operations
OVERLAND PARK, KS, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ - Codero, a leading provider of dedicated and managed hosting services, is renewing its commitment to renewable energy by purchasing green power for 100% of its operations including a data center in Phoenix, AZ and its headquarters located in Overland Park, KS. The company began to purchase green power in November of 2009 from Eco Electrons Renewable Energy. The purchase of renewable energy enabled Codero to launch a highly successful initiative called Green with Codero to signify its commitment to the environment.
"Codero is committed to sustainability," said Shelby Garlock, Director, Marketing of Codero. "We have taken a number of measures to reduce our carbon footprint including an initiative to launch a cloud hosting very soon. Recent studies have shown companies running applications in Cloud can reduce carbon emissions by 30 to 90 percent. Codero has also reduced energy consumption in our data center by 25 to 30 percent through the purchase of only 80 PLUS certified power supplies. Our customers are also responding well to our new green server bundle which requires less power for the same performance as other servers in its class."
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Codero's green power purchase will avoid an estimated 16 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 1,409 passenger vehicles each year.
As a member of Green-e Energy's Marketplace program, Codero displays the Green-e logo on its company website and other communication materials to help customers identify the services delivered with certified renewable energy. The credits purchased by Codero were certified by Green-e Energy, the leading renewable energy certification program in the U.S. Codero will continue to be a member of EPA's Green Power Leadership Club as a Green Power Partner.
"We are very excited to see Codero renew its commitment to renewable energy," said Rahul Chitrapu, Chief Executive of Eco Electrons. "Over sixty thousand people search for green web hosting each month on Google. Green with Codero is a terrific initiative that satisfies the demand for sustainable hosting services.'
Codero is a part of a growing list of companies and organizations that are taking real action to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from their energy use. Electricity generated from renewable sources results in less environmental waste and pollution, and displaces other non-renewable sources from the electric grid. Codero's purchase of electricity generated from nearly emissions-free renewable sources avoids carbon dioxide and other pollutants and serves to build the market for renewable energy nationwide, while increasing incentives for building new facilities.
