CodeBaby Conversations Assist Students During Online Application Process at Pikes Peak Community College
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) has simplified its online admissions process and has "Addy" to thank for it. Addy is the CodeBaby Character whose interactive conversations guide prospective students through the application process on the PPCC website. The results: an increase in completed applications, a significant reduction in application errors, and a decrease in admissions staff support.
Since the addition of Addy, the admissions process incurred a 50 percent increase in their conversion [application completion] rate. Further, the analytics show the application error rate decreased by 80 percent from one in four applications to one in 20, and the call volume to the admissions staff has decreased by more than 30 hours a week—nearly one employee's weekly hours.
“A CodeBaby Conversation has huge potential to make an organization more efficient,” said Dr. Tony Kinkel, PPCC President. Kinkel continued, “In tough economic times, we’re hurting because our budgets have been cut, especially in the State of Colorado, and we can’t give that personalized service at the level that we used to. Now CodeBaby allows us to offer individualized assistance.”
PPCC is not the only college seeing dramatic results from using a CodeBaby Conversation; the Virginia Community College System received the 2009 Campus Technology Innovators Award for Online College Planning. They use CodeBaby Conversations to help students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
CodeBaby CEO Patrick Bultema stated, "We are thrilled that prospective students are finding CodeBaby Conversations so beneficial. For some, this is the first time they've been asked to give their social security numbers or other personal information. To have a character interact and help them through the process with an emotionally intelligent conversation can make a dramatic difference."
As to the future, Kinkel is looking into developing electronic teaching assistants. "The success of CodeBaby at our college may allow for a thorough study of its usefulness for the entire Colorado Community College System because we all use the identical admission process," said Kinkel. "But since CodeBaby is located right here in Colorado Springs, we felt it was to our students' advantage to move ahead first."
