QUEBEC CITY, July 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ - CO2 Solution Inc. announced today that it applauds the announcement made yesterday by the Government of Quebec to implement a cap and trade system in the Province to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions responsible for climate change. CO2 Solution believes its breakthrough carbon dioxide capture technology is positioned as an important solution to help meet the proposed reductions.
In the joint announcement made by the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, Pierre Arcand, and the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, Clément Gignac, the Government of Quebec plans to establish a cap and trade system whereby large industrial plants and other significant sources of carbon dioxide and other GHGs would be required to reduce their emissions on an annual basis beginning January 1, 2013. In its announcement of the plan, Minister Arcand stated "Proving its leadership, vision and determination, Quebec is demonstrating that governments can play a fundamental role in the battle against climate change. We have one of the most ambitious objectives for the reduction of GHG emissions in North America." The province has pledged to reduce emissions 20% below 1990 levels by 2020. The full press release can be found at www.mddep.gouv.qc.ca/Infuseur/communique.asp?no=1904.
CO2 Solution has developed a patented enzyme-based technology for the cost-effective capture of CO2 emissions from large industrial sources in Quebec and elsewhere, including cement plants, aluminum refineries, power generation plants and oil and gas operations to meet the requirements of proposed climate change legislation in an efficient manner.
"We commend the Quebec Government for its leadership on this important environmental issue. With our made-in-Quebec technology, we look forward to supporting this effort and helping Quebec and North American industry efficiently meet new regulatory requirements for emissions reductions. In turn, the growth of our and other clean technology providers in Quebec will further establish the Province as a leader in the new 'green' economy", stated Glenn Kelly, President & CEO of CO2 Solution Inc.
According to the International Energy Agency's Greenhouse Gas Program, power plants and other large stationary industrial sources worldwide generated aggregate annual carbon dioxide emissions of more than 14 billion tons, representing half of all global emissions of carbon pollution from all sources. CO2 Solution's patented technology provides a cost effective answer for the capture and treatment of these harmful emissions.
