CIC Expands Internationally To Establish European Innovation Center In Rotterdam, The Netherlands
140,000 sf State-of-the-Art Innovation Center Will Bring Together Dutch and International Startups, Investors, and Innovative Corporates in the Entrepreneurial Heart of the Netherlands
ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, July 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cambridge Innovation Center ("CIC") announced its first international expansion to Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The 140,000 sf innovation center will provide premium office, coworking, and event space to 500 innovative companies and build upon CIC's international community of entrepreneurs, investors, and established businesses.
"We chose Rotterdam after careful consideration of the best location for our first center outside of the US," said CIC Founder and CEO Tim Rowe. "The Dutch have one of the most entrepreneurial cultures in Europe, and we believe there is incredible potential in Rotterdam. Rotterdam is a future-oriented, design-centric city that is increasingly being recognized on the world stage. It benefits from some of the strongest universities in the region, is a major maritime and rail hub, and, most importantly, its people have a powerful work ethic similar to that in our hometown of Boston. We think this is going to be a great partnership."
Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, CIC operates 500,000 sf of office space across 7 U.S. facilities, including its most recent expansion to St. Louis, Missouri. CIC's sister non-profit, the Venture Cafe Foundation, will also be launching in Rotterdam to provide networking programs and targeted initiatives to further foster an entrepreneurial culture and strengthen the innovation economy in the Netherlands.
CIC Rotterdam and Venture Cafe Rotterdam are made possible through a partnership between CIC and the City of Rotterdam, along with a number of the leading Dutch innovation-focused organizations, including the Erasmus Center for Entrepreneurship, TU Delft incubator Yes!Delft, InnovationQuarter, Rotterdam Partners, Deloitte, Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency, EY, Startup Delta, and others. Marcus Fernhout, a Rotterdam entrepreneur, will lead CIC Rotterdam as Managing Director.
