SALT LAKE CITY and OVERLAND PARK, Kan., March 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Children's Hospital Association (CHA), the voice of children's hospitals nationwide, has selected Health Catalyst's Late-Binding™ Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to enhance comparative analytics for its 220 member hospitals, supporting their efforts to improve care and reduce costs for pediatric patients.
CHA will use the EDW to aggregate clinical and operational data from its member pediatric hospitals, accelerating their ability to evaluate evidence-based practices and benchmark their performance against peers. The EDW will enable children's hospitals to submit data for analysis using automation and centralize the data on a single platform for faster and more comprehensive analyses.
"This strategic relationship with Health Catalyst will enable the Association to deliver the next generation of our data and analytics programs to meet our members' needs and support improved child health," said Mark Wietecha, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Association.
CHA will pilot the new capabilities with Milwaukee-based Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Texas Children's Hospital, the nation's largest pediatric facility, in Houston. Both hospitals are current Health Catalyst clients and CHA members. The pilot will give CHA the ability to draw data directly from the two hospitals' source systems, such as electronic health records, and house the information in the data warehouse for analysis.
"CHA and the comparative analysis they provide has been a key enabler of our quality improvement efforts for years," said Peggy Troy, RN, MSN, President and CEO of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. "We expect this new approach will significantly accelerate the quality improvement efforts not only of Children's of Wisconsin but of pediatric hospitals across the country."
Charles G. Macias MD, MPH, Chief Clinical Systems Integration Officer for Texas Children's Hospital, added, "Texas Children's has been working with Health Catalyst since 2012 to help drive improvements in clinical care and administrative services and as a result we've increased productivity, lowered costs, and improved the quality of care for our patients. We are big believers in the power of the enterprise data warehouse as well as CHA's analytics solutions, and we're looking forward to helping CHA leverage the technology to improve care in our peer organizations across the country."
Automating and centralizing the collection of data means that more time can be spent analyzing the data and meeting the needs of the member hospitals. CHA and Health Catalyst expect to build reports and applications on the new platform to provide additional benefits to CHA members.
"This is an exciting, strategic relationship that leverages our deep experience in helping children's hospitals improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care," said Dan Burton, CEO of Health Catalyst. "This work is so important, so meaningful, and so true to our mission as a company. What better place to apply our best efforts to improve outcomes, than helping the nation's children's hospitals to keep getting better?"
