Chicago's Ford City Mall Breaks Ground on Outlot Building for Chipotle and Mattress Firm Stores

JCPenney to grand re-open on July 1; buildout of new Five Below and other renovation announcements made

CHICAGO, June 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford City Mall recently broke ground on an outlot building along Cicero Avenue that will be occupied by Chipotle Mexican Grill and Mattress Firm. According to General Manager Tracy Munno, both stores are slated to open in fall 2016. She added that construction has also begun on a new Five Below in-line store which will also open in fall 2016. These new leases are part of the ongoing redevelopment project to upgrade Ford City Mall into the premier shopping destination for the South Chicago market.

Ms. Munno also announced the grand re-opening on July 1 of anchor store JCPenney. The store has undergone extensive interior renovations, including a new InStyle Salon inside (also opening July 1) and a 4,000 square-foot expanded appliance department. A new Sephora store opened inside JCPenney in spring 2016.

Carson's is also in the process of a major interior remodel at Ford City Mall and expects to complete renovations with a grand re-opening in early September 2016. New flooring, LED lighting and several restyled departments featuring an expanded selection of fashion brands are among the improvements being made by the anchor retailer.

Additional lease negotiations are currently in progress, says Ms. Munno. "We're very excited about the retailers currently in the pipeline and hope to make other announcements soon." She says that the leasing team has been focusing on apparel retailers and restaurants.

A major renovation is planned for the interior of the mall, designed by Chicago-based architect OKW. These include new corridor seating, new lighting and flooring, a remodeled food court with more dining options and more.
