LOS ANGELES, April 29, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Timothy Lane, CEO of Everest Advisors, Inc., and former CEO of PepsiCo Restaurants International for Asia and the Middle East, Inc. and Holiday Inn Worldwide, has been elected to the national governing board of directors for American Humane Association, the country's first national humane organization whose programs touch more lives than any other in its field.
Mr. Lane currently leads Everest Advisors, Inc. as CEO. In this capacity he advises and invests in early stage consumer companies. Previously, he had a nearly 20-year career with PepsiCo, Inc. where he served in numerous senior management capacities, including CFO, Pepsi Food Service; CFO, Frito Lay International; CFO, Pepsi International; and CFO, KFC worldwide.
As CEO for PepsiCo Restaurants International for Asia and the Middle East, Mr. Lane led the rapid development of PepsiCo's restaurant brands (KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell) throughout Asia and the Middle East. The great success of KFC in China enabled PepsiCo to spin off the restaurant business into what is presently known as YUM Brands, Inc.
Following his work at PepsiCo, Mr. Lane served as President and CEO of Holiday Inn Worldwide. With the advent of 9/11 Mr. Lane co-founded the nation-building firm, Afghanistan Reconstruction Company, Inc. (ARC). During his years in Kabul, ARC built the Kabul-Kandahar highway and the U.S. Embassy complex among other infrastructure projects. In addition, he founded Afghanistan International Bank, managed by ING.
Mr. Lane earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Dayton and his MBA at the University of Chicago.
Joining a historic organization at a time of significant growth
For nearly 140 years, American Humane Association has been at the forefront of virtually every major advance in protecting children and animals, from the institution of the first child labor laws to saving the Bald Eagle, pioneering animal-assisted therapy to help children with cancer, veterans and military families, protecting animals in entertainment and agriculture, and working to save more of the 6-8 million animals in the nation's shelters and get them into loving, forever homes. In just the past 10 years, more than 80,000 animals in disasters have been saved and sheltered following disasters and cruelty cases; hundreds of thousands of animals have been protected on film and television sets around the globe; and hundreds of millions of farm animals are living under independently verified scientifically based welfare standards, thanks to American Humane Association programs. The organization touches more than 42,000 lives each minute through effective, life-affirming, life-saving services and public outreach – more than any other in its field.
Over the past five years, American Humane Association has expanded its programmatic reach by some 1,000 percent, helping more of the most vulnerable. Revenues have grown by 54 percent in just the past three years and the organization currently spends 84 cents out of every dollar raised directly on programs – a cost ratio significantly higher than that of other national humane groups. Because of its outstanding stewardship, American Humane Association has earned the Independent Charities of America's "Seal of Excellence," awarded to fewer than five percent of the nation's more than one million charities; a GuideStar USA "Gold" rating, demonstrating deep commitment to nonprofit transparency and accountability; the rank of "Top-Rated Charity" from CharityWatch (one of only 600 charities nationwide to earn this honor); and membership in the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance for meeting all 20 standards for charity accountability.
"Having worked with the U.S. military in Afghanistan, I was struck by American Humane Association's remarkable work over the past 100 years in protecting those who protect our country, helping active-duty warriors, providing service dogs to veterans with PTSD and traumatic brain injury, helping bring healing and comfort to military families, and providing much-needed assistance, support, and health care for military animals," said Mr. Lane. "I was equally impressed by their work to efforts to help ensure the welfare of hundreds of millions of farm animals around the world. My goal in joining the board is to assist this historic organization in helping more of those who most need help."
"Timothy Lane's inspirational leadership and experience will be invaluable for American Humane Association's efforts across multiple programs as we accelerate our international expansion, grow our military initiatives, and leverage his tremendous experience in the restaurant field to advise food producers globally how animals in agricultural production may be treated more humanely," said Dr. Robin Ganzert, American Humane Association president and CEO. "His remarkable background and skills will further help increase the depth and scope of our worldwide impact."
