CDI Corp.'s Security Team in Portsmouth, Virginia Honored By Department of Defense for Outstanding Industrial Security
PHILADELPHIA, June 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CDI Corp.'s (NYSE: CDI) facility in Portsmouth, Virginia won the prestigious James S. Cogswell Award given by the Department of Defense's Defense Security Service (DSS) for outstanding industrial security achievement.
CDI was one of only 24 of the nation's more than 13,000 cleared defense contractors to receive the award this year. Winners were announced at the 2013 annual conference of NCMS, the Society of Industrial Security Professionals, in Chicago on June 26.
The Cogswell Award, established in 1966, is named in honor of the late Air Force Col. James S. Cogswell, the first chief of industrial security in the Department of Defense (DoD). Cogswell was responsible for developing the basic principles of the Industrial Security Program, which include an emphasis on the partnership between industry and government to protect classified information. This partnership ultimately ensures the greatest protection for the U.S. warfighter and our nation's classified information.
Security programs are subject to recurring assessments. The award criterion focuses on principles of industrial security excellence. Factors include establishing and maintaining a security program that far exceeds the basic National Industrial Security Program requirements, and providing leadership to other cleared facilities in establishing best practices while maintaining the highest standards for security.
The Cogswell Award selection process is rigorous. A DSS Industrial Security Representative may only nominate facilities that have at a minimum two consecutive superior industrial security review ratings and which show a sustained degree of excellence and innovation in their overall security program management, implementation and oversight.
CDI's Portsmouth site provides a comprehensive range of marine engineering, naval architecture, and logistics services to Navy, Coast Guard and commercial clients. The site employs more than 200 engineers and technicians, and specializes in ship and boat design, acquisition, construction, modernization, alteration and maintenance.
"Our Portsmouth team works hard to maintain the trust of our DoD and Department of Homeland Security clients in every way, including by rigorously protecting sensitive information. We are proud to see them recognized by the DSS for their security processes and results," said Steve Karlovic, Vice President of CDI's Government Services business.
