Carney to Perform Special Show at Piano's in New York City on September 15th
Appearance Is Rare Chance to See Band Before Frontman Reeve Carney Takes On The Role Of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Upcoming Broadway Production of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark
CARNEY'S DEBUT ALBUM — MR. GREEN, VOL. 1 — OUT NOW ON DAS LABEL/INTERSCOPE
NEW YORK, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- L.A.-based rock band Carney have announced that they will perform a very special show at Piano's in New York City, giving fans a chance to see the band before frontman Reeve Carney takes the stage as the lead in the upcoming Broadway production of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark. The September 15th show will feature songs from Carney's debut album Mr. Green, Vol. 1, which was released in May on DAS Label/Interscope Records.
In its live review of Carney's May show at Piano's, the Sentimentalist wrote that the band "proved to be purveyors of an unpredictably broad, bold, kaleidoscopic sonic palette. Shades of '70s glimmer rock, '80s Sunset Strip decadence (and a bit of The Police), and boogie blues all coalesced to impressive heights," while calling Reeve "a born entertainer, whose elegant looks and soaring voice (think a note-perfect mixture of Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke with shades of Chris Cornell's higher range) would make anyone nervous."
Carney, comprised of Reeve (lead vocals/guitar), Zane Carney (guitar), Jon Epcar, (drums), and Aiden Moore (bass), are known for their incendiary live shows, selling out regular residencies at the El Rey Theatre and The Troubadour in Los Angeles. Named one of the hottest bands at Lollapalooza by Spin, the band has also won over crowds at Bonnaroo, San Diego Street Scene, and the Outside Lands Festival, with Entertainment Weekly naming Reeve "one of the 10 Rising Stars to watch in 2010."
In addition, Zane, Epcar, and Moore will perform with the orchestra while Reeve takes the stage as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Julie Taymor-directed Broadway production of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, which begins performances November 14, with the official opening night set for December 21. The production features new music written by Bono and The Edge. After Reeve was cast, Bono raved, "Reeve is everything we could have hoped for: an amazing voice and a truly charismatic presence." Taymor has also cast Reeve in her upcoming film adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Tempest alongside Helen Mirren, Alan Cumming, and Russell Brand.
Carney has been featured in recent articles in People, Interview, and The New York Post, which marveled about their performance at a June Bowery Ballroom show, calling it "an explosive set in which (Reeve) showed off his three-octave rock and roll range, dipping into a baritone one moment and scaling to an impossibly high falsetto the next."
Check out Carney's first single "Love Me Chase Me," now available on iTunes. In addition, "Testify," a track from Mr. Green, Vol. 1, is featured in the theatrical trailer for the upcoming Robert Rodriguez-directed film Machete, starring Robert DeNiro, hitting theaters September 3rd.
