CardFlight Announces Plans to Support Apple Touch ID for Mobile Payments
Provider of mobile POS technology will allow merchants to login to SwipeSimple application via fingerprint
NEW YORK, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, CardFlight announced that it will incorporate Apple's Touch ID technology into their SwipeSimple mobile payments application. Launched earlier this year, SwipeSimple is a turn-key solution that empowers credit card processors, merchant service providers, ISOs, agents and other resellers to offer a mobile point of sale to their merchants.

The SwipeSimple product offering includes native smartphone and tablet applications that allows merchants to accept credit card payments via their mobile devices. Following Apple's release of iOS 8, merchants will be able to login to the SwipeSimple application by using their fingerprint and Apple's Touch ID technology.
Earlier today, at their Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, Apple announced a preview of their upcoming iOS 8 that will include an API for Touch ID, opening up the fingerprint scanning technology to developers like CardFlight. The announcement was made during Apple's WWDC keynote address by Apple's Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Engineering and head of OS X and iOS. Almost immediately after Federighi made his announcement, executives, bloggers and other pundits who cover the financial services industry began commenting about the implications for mobile payments. Benedict Evans, Partner at Andreessen Horowitz said via Twitter, "83% of iPhone 5s owners use fingerprint scanner. Now there's an API. Obvious move. Implications for payments."
On the same day as Apple's announcement, CardFlight announced that they will upgrade their applications to support the new technology as quickly as possible after iOS 8 is released, scheduled for this fall. With the upgrade to CardFlight's SwipeSimple product, merchants will have the option to login to their mobile payment application via scanning their fingerprint using Touch ID, rather than entering the traditional email address and password.
Founded less than two years ago, CardFlight has established itself as an innovator within mobile payments. In April, the company won the 2014 Technology Innovation Award from the Electronic Transactions Association (ETA), the global trade association representing companies that offer electronic transaction processing products and services. "The proliferation of tablets and smartphones is rapidly changing the payments industry," said Derek Webster, Founder and CEO of CardFlight. "We're proud to be at the forefront of that shift in bringing new and innovative mobile payment technologies to market."
