Can the Oil Slick Disaster Prevent Your Kids from Becoming Disasters? Asks Parenting Expert
MIAMI, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- During the 2008 U.S. election, the slogan "drill, baby, drill" was a favorite chant. But now that "spill, baby, spill" is the new mantra, perhaps it's time to find a better way? Or so says award-winning author Dr. Jeffrey Fine, who sees a connection between this ecological disaster and the harsh birthing and parenting techniques that have been a disaster for us all.
Recently rewarded with the prestigious national Nautilus Gold Award (which honors authors who promote spiritual growth, green values, and positive social change) as well as a Living Now Book Award (which rewards those who "help readers learn about enriching their lives in wholesome, Earth-friendly ways"), this renowned psychologist (http://tinyurl.com/28ote3x) contends that the mindset that's favored fossil fuels over renewable energy is identical to the one that's led to cold and sterile hospital births, bottle feeding and other practices that foster separation rather than attachment.
Saying that we intuitively understand that systems that call for dominion and control are opposed to what God and nature intends, he points to a gaping disconnect between the way people should be living and the way they actually live.
"Decade after decade, Americans overwhelmingly respond to the idea that everything is connected, by patronizing movies like Star Wars, Dances with Wolves and AVATAR," says Dr. Fine, "yet then continue to support TV propagandists, and put their babies in day care. They respond to green ideas, but readily tune them out, in favor of outmoded ways of living."
This disconnect, he believes, is at the root of the woes in the Gulf, the classroom and American cities. Saying that the very fabric of our culture and country is at stake if we don't alter our ways, this former student of the famed Joseph Chilton Pearce advocates green energy, as well as green parenting techniques. New moms and dads can do their part, he advises, by connecting with nature, sleeping with their babies, and engaging in simple low-teach creative play.
Other techniques are featured in his book, THE ART OF CONSCIOUS PARENTING: The Natural Way to Give Birth, Bond with, and Raise Healthy Children (which he wrote with his wife, Dalit Fine, M.S.), which, in addition to winning two prestigious national awards, has been heralded by noted author Thom Hartman as possibly "one of the most important books you read this year."
