CAIR Joins United Church of Christ in Release of Video Promoting Interfaith Understanding

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today announced that it is joining with the United Church of Christ (UCC) in the release video promoting interfaith understanding.

The video, called "Trading Places," seeks to demonstrate that major religions, while unique and distinct, do share common core values, like love, peace, family, and justice. The 90-second video shows three clergy members swapping their religious attire and then going to preach in the others' house of worship. The message is that, regardless of the specific rituals and beliefs, these faiths are all inherently good and loving.

"At this time of increasing societal conflicts, it is incumbent upon faith communities to come together to promote hope and inclusion, rather than fear and division," said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

"With all of the religious bigotry, hate crimes and talk of Muslim registries today, we believe it's a good time for a message about interfaith understanding," said John Dorhauer, general minister and president of the UCC. "Given the current political mood, a message of togetherness has been absent from the national dialogue."

The Unitarian Universalist Association and Rabbi John Linder of Temple Solel in Phoenix, Ariz., have also endorsed the video.
