CA, Inc. and RES Software Collaborate to Transform Desktop Management and Create the Workspace of the Future
Partnership Enables Comprehensive Solution for Transforming Traditional Desktops into Dynamic, Virtual Workspaces
ISLANDIA, N.Y., May 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CA, Inc. (Nasdaq: CA) today announced a partnership with RES Software, a leader in user workspace management, to offer end-to-end physical and virtual management of the workspace as a service. CA and RES Software will be showcasing the integration of their technologies at CA World 2010 (May 16-20), Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas.
"CA and RES Software are joining together to deliver a solution that will help transform the traditional desktop into a dynamic, virtual workspace, giving customers improved long-term agility, while better controlling costs and safeguarding service levels," said Roger Pilc, corporate senior vice president and general manager of CA's Virtualization and Service Automation Business Unit. "In today's world, a worker may use a desktop computer, mobile phone, a laptop, or other device to access the Internet. This solution will give organizations the ability to disaggregate the traditional desktop without sacrificing security, time or cost."
The premier partnership between CA and RES Software will focus on a solution that combines dynamic and context-aware workspace composition with centralized device management. Rather than delivering all of the rich user experience from a single device, components of the workspace are instead sourced from a variety of more cost-efficient and easily managed sources in the datacenter and the Cloud. This will allow IT to better enable workforce mobility, leverage employee-and contractor-owned devices more effectively prevent data leaks from client devices, and reduce costs. The goal is to help customers to create and manage a dynamic workspace service that is user-centric, device-aware, location-aware, and highly cost effective.
"We are excited about this opportunity to jointly work with CA. Enterprises are looking at desktop virtualization projects and operating system upgrades as an ideal opportunity to move towards the delivery of dynamic workspaces," said Jim Kirby, president of the Americas, RES Software. "By combining RES PowerFuse and CA IT Client Manager, customers are able to have substantial control over the speed, impact and cost of this paradigm shift where the workspace will be delivered through a mixture of physical, virtual and cloud resources within the appropriate user context."
According to the leading analyst firm, Gartner, "organizational and user requirements are driving an architectural shift away from PCs toward a composite work space that is always available and accessible, with on-demand delivery for most devices." Moreover, "having the ability to access their environment (from any device using any network from any location) is viewed as user-friendly, in addition to providing better agility and productivity for the enterprise."*
The latest release of CA IT Client Manager extends enterprise capabilities to inventory, manage and deploy virtualized systems and applications. In CA ITCM r12.5, customers will be able to manage their virtualized applications for Microsoft App-V and VMWare ThinApp alongside their physical applications with such functions as deployment, inventory, monitoring and reporting. In addition, this release will extend the inventory of virtualized platform environments, including VMWare ESX and Solaris Zones.
