NEW YORK, Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bulova Corporation has announced the introduction of the world's first watch with a case made from 24-karat pure gold. The Swiss-made special edition timepiece, from the company's Bulova Accu•Swiss brand, is the first edition in the company's Joseph Bulova Collection, a group of watches representing the highest level of watchmaking achievement. The Joseph Bulova Collection First Edition 24-Karat Gold Timepiece has been recognized by WatchPro, the United Kingdom's foremost watch industry publication, as the 2014 "Innovative Watch of the Year."
Conceptualized by Bulova Corporation President Gregory Thumm, the highly engineered 24-karat gold timepiece relies on a proprietary process developed by Bulova in cooperation with its Swiss manufacturing partner. The process enables Bulova to harden 999.9 pure 24-karat gold while maintaining exacting quality standards for finish and fit, and ensuring water resistance to 30 meters. A world first, this proprietary manufacturing process has patents pending world-wide.
"The 24-karat gold special edition watch is a true testament to the legacy of Bulova's founder, Joseph Bulova, and his unwavering dedication to innovation and craftsmanship," said Gregory Thumm, Bulova Corporation President.
Crafted in Switzerland with strong sport styling, the timepiece has been constructed in a unique capsule form, with bezel, case and caseback anchored together with light and durable grade-5 titanium components to form an integral case. A separate sub-bezel, designed as part of the case, keeps the watch secure with a series of specially designed bumpers to deflect shocks and holds a sapphire crystal with five layers of anti-reflective coating.
The registered strap design, conceived and engineered for strength and security, combines two material layers: an alligator strap and a 316L stainless steel mesh bracelet incorporating three microns of black titanium carbide. The two layers are fixed together with a series of grade-5 titanium rivets designed to slip within the mesh to maximize flexibility and comfort.
Each Joseph Bulova Collection First Edition 24-Karat Gold Timepiece contains a 26-jewel automatic movement certified as a chronometer by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC). In addition, the cases have been certified by the Bureau Central du Contrôle des Métaux Précieux for fineness and purity of the gold, with every watch bearing the St. Bernhard dog's head precious metal hallmark.
A watch to be treasured for a lifetime, every Joseph Bulova Collection First Edition, 24-Karat Gold Timepiece is housed in a special hand-made presentation case covered entirely with 24-karat gold leaf. For more information, please visit www.bulova.com.
