"BTS is a company tied to the unique community and work ethos of Baltimore, so I am extremely honored to be selected as a top local employer by The Baltimore Sun," said BTS CEO Sean Lane. "I created this company to give back to the military community from which I had just exited, but, more recently, I have tied our corporate mission and philanthropy into the Baltimore community and I hope to make a positive impact for many years."
BTS and its subsidiary companies have grown rapidly since their formation in 2008, a feat which is attributed to its unique product offerings as well as the business and technical prowess of its employees. In addition to their core business, the founders of BTS have also established the Digital Harbor Foundation - a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the technology economy in Baltimore through education and employment initiatives.
"Since its inception, BTS has not been driven by market norms in the realm of employee pay, benefits or workplace comfort, therefore we have exceeded normal patterns for growth and revenue," said BTS CFO Chris Hoyt. "We are extremely pleased with the company's quantifiable growth and success, but BTS is also dedicated to giving back to the local community in a way that will yield long term results."
This year, 115 companies participated in the Top Workplaces program and 75 companies were selected to receive the award. The evaluation is based upon an open nomination, interview with executive leadership, and feedback from employee surveys. The surveys included 23 questions on topics including company direction, opportunity for career growth, job conditions, benefits and pay.
