BROOKLYN, N.Y., June 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) 150th Anniversary Kick-Off Gala on Monday, June 6 will honor Brooklyn trailblazers: NYC First Lady Chirlane McCray, philanthropists Charles J. and Irene Hamm and corporate leader Forest City Ratner at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, 333 Adams Street in Brooklyn, from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. The emcee is ABC's The Chew co-host Carla Hall.
Our Purpose is Our Community is the theme for the kick-off of the BCS 150th landmark anniversary, a year-long celebration. The evening will include: reception, auction, dinner and awards presentation.
BCS Philanthropic Leadership Award: Charles J. and Irene Hamm. Mr. Hamm is former President and CEO of Independence Savings Bank and founder of Brooklyn Community Foundation. He's a former Chairman of BCS Board of Directors. Mrs. Hamm is a retired New York City educator.
BCS Corporate Leadership Award: Forest City Ratner Companies has built with a deep seated belief in Brooklyn and its people--from the MetroTech Center to Atlantic Center to Barclays Center. Accepting the award: Bruce C. Ratner, Executive Chairman and former BCS Board member and MaryAnne Gilmartin, President and CEO.
BCS Civic Leadership Award: Chirlane McCray, First Lady of NYC, is a longtime Brooklyn resident and community advocate. Her impact includes: NYC Pre-K program, Chair of the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City and with Mayor Bill de Blasio released ThriveNYC, a groundbreaking study on mental illness in NYC. Ms. McCray spearheads ThriveNYC.
BCS Program Award: Lanetta Darlington attended the BCS Gary Klinsky Children's Centers (GKCC) after-school program as a child. Now a senior financial analyst at New York Presbyterian, she volunteers with GKCC and is active in her East New York neighborhood.
BCS Service Award: Ellen Fine Levine, Vice-Chair and Treasurer of the BCS Board of Directors, who recently retired as Managing Director and Executive Client Officer of The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC).
Award presenters include: Eric L. Adams, Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz, former Brooklyn Borough President, Steven Klinsky, Founder, BCS Gary Klinsky Children's Centers.
